My Mazda MX5 Mk1 Thread
Right then, brought this back in August cheap as it had no MOT on it, gave it a good check over before I parted with the cash and figured even if I spent a couple hundred getting it through the MOT it was still a cheap motor. Put it in for the MOT and to my surprise it went straight through, not even any advisories.
Pics as it was when I first brought it
The first mod to go on was something that I'd had laying around in the garage for ages, a set of blue sidelight bulbs, they still look white in the pic, but are being upgraded shortly to LED bulbs as one has just blown
Next up was to replace the ageing wipers, so rather than just put new on thought it was a good idea to upgrade to the flat blade wipers. Old vs new pics
One of the issues I was aware of when I brought the car was that all the speakers had blown, kept hold of my HU from my previous car so brought a bulk load of goodies and proceeded to fit them in. First up was my Sony Explod headunit along with new JVC door speakers and JVC headrest speakers
At the same time as fitting these I got rid of the bonnet stay by fitting gas bonnet struts
Also fitted my lazy eye headlight kit
Next on the list was wheels, picked up some Dotz ultralight racing 5 spoke 17's with good tyres fairly cheap
The interior was a bit bland and boring for my liking so brightened it up with a bit of colour coding
Got hold of a mesh grille and self adhesive numberplate as the original plate was looking a little tired and I wanted to open up the front 'mouth'
Then I got hold of a front strut brace and promptly got it fitted
Not long back my backbox decided to snap off, so figured it would be a good time to replace with a stainless steel catback system and decat pipe
I had been looking at spoilers for it since I brought the car but wasn't keen on the aftermarket ones about, but managed to find an OEM spoiler and bootlid in good condition, had them painted and got them fitted to the car
Latest jobs that have been done in the last couple days are to change the old wooden steering wheel for a leather Momo one
Andtoday have had my lowering springs fitted
Before and after pics
Thats where I'm currently upto at the moment, but will keep this updated as I go on
Looks a lot better now it's lowered.
Great work so far mate
My mate has just bought one exactly like this, very tidy little motor! Those lazy eye kits look dead cool.
Be careful there mate !
MX5 modding can be a slippery slope. One day you think "I reckon the callipers would look good painted yellow", Next thing you know your driving around in this......
It's too late for me, But it looks like you could still be in the "Recreational MX5 modding" stage of the addiction. If you get help now then you might still be able to beat this thing before it consumes you.
