Having improved the sound of my car by removing the rear speakers, I have begun to "tune" the system. I was running the Alpine mono amp feeding the sub, the bass was OK but not like Wozzas gut wrenching system, so I have looked at "improving" this situation even more.

So I removed the alpine amp and used the now spare rear channels of the 4 way amp (no rear speakers) and bridged these channels to feed the sub - hey presto far better Bass, with technically a lower power amplifier?

Goes to show its not the Wattage but the quality that counts, class A. amp vs Class D.

Now I need a crossover to remove the high pitched stuff getting to my sub as the Rainbow amp is leaking a bit of treble and I think it is system done!!

There is a low pass cross over, but I have no idea about setting it up properly. A job for JAE I think.

DJ Wozza If there is a seperate frequency crossover just for the two channels that are bridged for the subwoofer, start at say 120hz low pass and
experiment then with going lower until you are happiest with the sound.

If the crossover is for all channels leave it alone. How is the amp fed the music signal ? Do you have a seperate sub out from the head unit ?
Does the head unit have a crossover for the sub output ?

The Head unit has 1 RCA out - no sub out.
The RCA goes into the "rear" channels and then using the "rear out" facility looped into the front channels to provide the front speakers full range sound.

The Amp has full crossovers for the front and rear channels, so plenty to play with.

if IIRC you have the JVC 810 which has 3 preouts at 5v so time to take it out again!!

this might help http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/01...1-002A.pdf page 4

The alpines only ever give anywhere near there rated vol at 14.4v as wozza said but even so it should outperform the ipaul so im guessing something somewhere is either set incorrectly or wired up wrong..

you may also cause some probs if you running the two channel with a 2 4ohm loads and a 2 ohm load, it may overheat and go into protect.

i will have a box of tricks and pick up some cables and phones from the shop on SOR so that if you need em i have em with me and should be able to sort this at JAE..

Cool had a real problem yesterday, but DJWozza helped sort it out. The amp kept on cutting out, then started blowing the main fuse on the distribution block when the sub starts asking for deep bass............. I think it is all sorted now, turned the gain down on the head unit this stopped the cutting out and replaced the 30A main fuse with a 40A then this morning with a 60A - this sorted the problem of fuses blowing.

I will bring the Alpine amp to JAE, it is only 10 mins to add it into the system to see what the problem is.

Deffo only rear preouts on my head though.

the 810 def has three preouts..

the sub one is a single rca and you use a splitter to run it into the amp.

your popping fuses beacuse you have changed the impedance load on the amp and drawing more current. i would be very careful as im sure that your loading the amp too much and it could end up frying something..

if its cutting out under load then the amp isnt getting enough current due to either a poor battery/charging system or possibly due to the wire not thick enough to carry the current. aaron had a similar problem which is now fixed with bigger power/earth wiring.
