Next chapter of my life...
Oli, no one is critising your option all they are doing is giving you some of their life experiences and what some have said holds true.
Obviously I am biased because I am your dad but I personally think you have a very very technical head on your shoulders and at such a young age, go for it if you want but I personally would keep the photography as a very keen hobby and concentrate on the technical aspect of a career.
But well done tho mate x
sent from my Android SGS 2
So you're all saying that I should have stayed and learnt maths for another 2 years which would not benefit me in the slightest, or maybe english where I'll have to then re read over Romeo and Juliet another 7 times, giving me the same grade I would have done if I hadn't have studied the other 2 years.
Or, I could then go directly in to work, getting me no grades more at all. But still earning little money as I'll be sixteen earning about 3 pound an hour.
So, it's either:
Stick with my grades in school and then get another 3 a levels with the photography course, then if I get far enough, go to university, with 3 a levels, then study in higher education.
Stick with my grades in school, do sixth form, and maybe improve my grades by one, maybe.
Or, go straight into work, with grades from year 11, and earn 3 pound an hour.
I know they're life experiences, but, nobody knows what job or career I shall have in future life, nobody knows what new jobs will arise, nobody knows where I will go in life, and say if a job arised that I really liked, but didn't have sufficient knowledge of photography, I'd regret it, no?
So maybe, I shouldn't have picked something I deeply enjoy and will put 100% of my effort and concentration in to, and should have picked something that I cannot develop any further, which won't get 100% of any effort or concentration.
Yeah, for you lot, I shouldn't have picked it.
Everybody else in real life, be it adults, etc, all seem pleased for me and won't say anything wrong about it. Except you lot.

Whoa this thread has taken a turn for the dark side, I didn't and I'm sure no one else meant to cause offence. No one's trying to be your dad (except Phil of course!) but I don't think anyone should hold back from offering some mild advice from their own experiences.
As someone who has changed career once, I can offer personal experience that things change as time passes, and what you want now isn't necessarily what you want a few years down the line. I'd hate for you to look back on a missed opportunity later on.
No one here is telling you what to do, nor are they telling you not to pursue photography. My personal opinion having met you was that you're a smart chap and therefore I find it odd that you'd want to close off your options when you're still so young.
However, if you've thought this through carefully and are sure it's the right path, then I'm pleased for you - if photography is all you ever want to do there's no harm in making an early start - I wish you the best of luck
Congratulations Oli. I'm sure you'll be a success at whatever you choose to do in life :thumbup1:

Congratz mate, I hope it all works out the way you want.
It's impossible to say what the future holds. Sometimes what you think you want to do now will lead you down a totally different path in a few years time (maybe you'll design lenses for Nikkon for example!).
Things change, you'll change. Just do what makes you happy because there's no amount of money (well within reason maybe!) that can compensate for working in a hateful job all your life.
