If you can't do something you love then do something that makes you a ton of cash - both rarely come together.

Well done mate, if it's what you enjoy then go for it
When I was your age I would've taken some of these comments as negative criticism but now I'm older I can see where they're coming from. They just want you to make sure you're 100% about this and don't regret it later in life.
When I was at school I wanted to be a chef but changed my mind before I started studying for it. I then decided I wanted to get into IT so went to college for 2 years and did a couple of other short courses but ended up working in advertising instead! Then I left work at 22 and went to uni for 3 years to do multimedia as I wanted to be a website designer and here I am back in advertising as jobs are so hard to come by in that industry!
So you could say I've wasted 5 years of my life getting qualifications in these areas when I already knew most of it from teaching myself at home. I just wanted the piece of paper to say I could do it to help me get a job but it didn't work out that way. A higher qualification in maths for instance would probably be more beneficial in helping you get a good job. If you're good at something a strong portfolio will speak volume, much more than a piece of paper. Would you be happy studying 2 subjects, photography and something else?
It's your life though and your decision, I'm sure you've made the right one for you
