How to wrap spoiler and mirrors. Cant deicide on weave direction.
Hi guys.
Im wrapping my spoiler and wing mirrors with Dinoc but cant decide which direction to do the weave. If I just wrap the spoiler staright off the sheet, the weave will just go one way or the other. The other option is to cut the sheet and put the joint at the centre of the spoiler with the weave going both ways. Then Il just do the wing mirrors to match the respective side.
The options are
A \\\\\\\\\\\\ or B //////////// or C \\\\\\////// or D //////\\\\\\
I think I prefer C. Dont know how easy it is to join the Dinoc, but i figure if I use the manufactured cut edge then that will give me the best chance. Has anyone got any experience joining it? B
My spoiler is silver so don't want a little silver line showing at the centre of the spoiler. Thought about putting a little bit of black spray at the centre, but want to be able to put the spoiler back to stock If I dont like the carbon look. Car is off the road for about a week while I replace a wing mirror (see other thread), so Im taking the opportunity to do the wrapping. I've taken the spoiler off the car. What a mess under neath. 2 big rust patches from the remains of 2 of the clips each side of the brake light, so if anyone gets rust stains coming from the spoiler thats probably what it is. Luckily bit of T cut took the stain away.
I'll take some pics while Im doing it if I remember, then I'll take some of the finished result.

I can't say how to do it, but your right if you can do 'c' then that is exactly what I would do.
Normally a genuine carbon part would be made from a single sheet, so cutting it to make the weave go opposite directions would make it look obvioulsy wrong in my eyes.
I just wrapped the centre bar on my new bumper in carbon fibre, and the weave all goes one direction...
Ah, didnt think of that, I was looking at your bumper earlier aswell and didnt notice that. I think in my head it was going to be this in your face pattern, but never really seen any carbon in real life. I know Ive seen a few Dinoc dash ones where people have done different parts in different directions and it looked good, but as you say a real carbon piece woule be all one direction, that makes things a bit easier. Should I just do the mirrors in opposite directions?
Thanks for the replies
Gareth
If it was me I would do the mirrors in the same direction as the spoiler, so it goes the same direction all over.

I agree carbon goes one direction (not the boy band) so to mess with it to much looks wrong and then looks fake.
When I did my mirrors I didn't even think of direction just did each one at a time
Well I finished the wrapping as well as some other little jobs last weekend, including a few little rust patches by the rear number plate screws, which then ended up with some paint settling on the roof of the car, so added another job of clay barring the car. Must say very impresesed with the clay bar!! I finished that about 2 last sunday so was just rinsing the car off when my dad rings me saying hes been out on his boat nd picked up a rope round his prop going back onto his mooring so I had to jump in the car with all my diving kit and go to the rescue, so needless to say I didnt have any time for pics. And then it rained all week so the car was filthy, but cleaned it again today and I've finally taken some pics.
Im really pleased with the results. Suprisingly easy to work with once you get used to it. Takes a bit of patience but ended up with not a single visable ripple or bubble.
What do you think?
Looks great! As long as you take your time and apply plenty of heat that stuff can give very good results. Looks good with the contrast against the silver paint too.
Did you take the spoiler off to wrap it?
Thanks for the comment. Yeah I took the spoiler off the car. Bit of a pig to get the double sided tape off. I wrapped it all the way round the spoiler then cut it just under the bottom lip so theres no cut edges on show. I couldn't find any double sided tape the right thickness to stick it back on tho, so just used a small bead of silicone.
For the mirrors I took the caps off and again put the cut just out of sight.
I've started in doing the interior now, starting with the gold panels around the window switches. The vinyl won't stretch into the recess under the switch tho, so I've painted the panel satin black, then wrapped it, then carefully cut around the recess. I've only done the passenger side one so far but it looks good. Im slowly going to try and get rid of all the gold bits inside the car, never liked the gold. Luckily my dash hasnt got the big gold stripe, but being a sport it has got the 2 tone wheel, so I may get an SE wheel to replace it. The dash bar bit above the glovebox is all scratched (as per usual) so im going to try and wrap the bar, and all the bits that are gold in the early car, just to give the dash a bit of contrast.
Looks good so far mate!
