Now the bumper and skirts are finished, I need a new project. And as each one I do seems to be more challenging than the last (and because I really want another 50hp) I'm going to make a DIY supercharger.

First thing to do is build a cradle for the SC, as that's the only hard part. And if I can't do that then I'll be able to stop before I waste too much money.

The one part of building a cradle that has seemed the hardest to me is getting it square to the engine so the pulleys all run parallel. But I just went out to the car a few minutes ago and had a peek under the bonnet and found the two perfect mounting holes.

These may be the same ones the TTE cradle uses, I'm not really sure as I've never seen one fitted up close.

They are the mounting holes for the front manifold shield, which seem perfect as they are square to the engine, and are part of a nice big solid lump of steel (the manifold flange) so it will be a stable mounting point.

Anyway, here's a picture of the holes in question, and consider this the first update of many...

I believe they are the holes the are used but again I'm only going by pictures,

As you know I'm in the same position and would love the extra power to push the lexus up to 200bhp.

And its the same situation, what's needed is an in depth list of parts needed and a proper build thread for the DIY charger which I hope this will become,

Have you spoke to stoney as he's not far from you and was willing to lend the cradle to Hurricane a while back for him to copy.

Think I will keep a very close eye on this thread

I haven't spoken to Stoney recently as I thought you were waiting for him to come back with when/if he'd be able to lend it?

  • Supercharger eBay £200
  • Cradle Self Produced £100
  • Intercooler eBay £60
  • HKS SSQV eBay £70
  • Blackbox Patrik £70
  • Pipework eBay £50
  • Flanges Self Produced £50
  • SS Manifold eBay £200 (nice, but not essential)

That list may get bigger as I'm not sure if I've covered everything, but a starting budget of £600 isn't bad compared to £2000, even if I go a bit over.

Yeah that's pretty much what I worked it out to be in cost,

I've sent him msg and Pms and haven't had a responce I will keep on at him but I think it maybe down to distance more than anything,

What's the belt you need and also do u need the tentioner for it or could you run it without that part.

Maybe instead of going alone we need to work as a team and both annoy stoney until he gives in

Tensioner could probably be worked into the cost of the cradle as it will be welded/bolted on.

I know the type of belt has been mentioned on here a few times, but I'll try to make a final list with all the info from other threads in one place. Spark plugs is another thing as well.

We should take turns every other day pestering him. :gay:

Well I've just sent him a msg on FB

Didn't think you would have to change the plugs as the power isn't to much

Done a bit more research and found some more pictures which could be useful in working out how to make the cradle...

The tensioner TTE used is a Supra timing belt tensioner. Here's one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160507727681

I also decided that if I'm going to be fiddling around in the engine bay trying out cradle fitments then my induction kit will just be in the way, so I swapped back to the OEM airbox/scoop setup, but I decided to add a bit of Sprinter magic before it went back on which you can see HERE

Back to stock (ish)...
