Key Casing Broke!
Key Casing Broke!
quite a bit new but ive a few i dont use now as ive removed the system. send me a pm we can come to a deal
Not having much luck - after Timpsons saying they couldn't do it, and the mobile guy letting me down, I tried another local cutters today who looked at it and said they could do it, and duly did - for it to work in the door, boot and glovebox, but not turn in the ignition. Felt a bit "notchy" sliding into the ignition, but wouldn't turn, took it back in, he ran it through again, same thing. Then tried tapering the edges off the end (to match how mine have worn) and no luck, ran it through a 4th time, and still the same. Hmm...
HA! Few mins with a file and a little luck; new flip key is now turning in the ignition! I took the end down a little and rounded the corners a bit, and tried it and it began to turn, but wasn't smooth and was a job to release it (the push to turn back) so took the end down a bit more, and with the rounded back of the file went down the "spine" of the blade, smoothing it out a little, tried again and much better. Went over it all a couple more times and it's now pretty much spot on.
So, happy it's working, but now a little concerned that it took very little effort to wear the metal down, and worried it will now wear down too quick in the lock and get stuck or worse; break off!
LOL!
I end up getting one cut once a year now lol.
I always use these guys http://duplicut.co.uk/
as no one local will cut them for me. They Charge £15 but are spot on and Know there stuff.
I rang Lexus just to enquire (before I decided to take a file to the key I had cut) and they said just to supply and cut, without the buttons coding and transponder, is £50+vat per key, or for the whole thing is £140+vat per key. They said they could do it from a hi res photo of the blade (although I'd need to take the keys into them to photograph) or if I had the little metal tag with 5 numbers on it, try could do it from that - as that's my key profile ID (which I do have, but didn't know what that was until he mentioned it!)
My flip seems to working ok, since I filed it. I think it could do with a little more wear on it, and maybe the grooves that run the length of the blade, down the cente, could do with being a tiny bit deeper, but was out all this eve and it worked fine, so I'm happy at the mo (although I did a job on a brand new Kia today which had a LOVELY flip key - very Audi like - which would be real nice to have as it's smaller, and better shaped)
lexuslloyd I end up getting one cut once a year now lol.

I just cant wait to get mine sorted, I have other things high up on the sort list which is the problem though, e.g. tyres and wheel alignment
