I know they need brackets - either made from MDF or buy in from eBay US - but what speakers would be recommended to replace the stock ones? Mine are rattling/buzzing with even the slightest of , and to be honest, the system overall is lacking some low end.

I really CBA to go down the amp + sub route, and realise I won't get 6x9's sounding like a sub, but would like a pair that can handle and kick out some low end. Music is mainly rock, but my iPod varies widely in genre Wink

Also, do I need any special spec's in regard to wiring in (I have no idea what terminals the stock speakers use) or ohm rating, in order to be fine with the stock on-board amp?

Stock use dual voice coils, with separate coil for treble and bass - so 4 wires in total.
Clearly this introduces a problem as 99% of 6x9's only use 2 wires.

There was a set made by MB Quart that would have worked but I have no idea if they are still made?

MB Quart PVI 269 are the speakers I was thinking of - should be usable as a direct replacement for OEM rears.

Thanks. Only thing I can find for those are PVL 269's, but they seem to be a 6x9 and a separate tweeter?

If I got a "normal" set of 6x9's, that only use two terminals per speaker rather than the Lexus' 4 terminals per speaker, what would the affect of leaving two terminals in each speaker disconnected?

loose the xover. Then all 4 terminals are wired using the OEM wires as the amp has already acted as a xover.

If you only use a normal 6x9 then you will loose either the bass or the treble.

Oh ok, so, using the MB Q's, you wire up the two pos and the 2 negs to the single pos and neg on the speaker itself, and the stock OEM amp sorts it out?

No the MB's have 2 completely separate speakers with standard inputs on each.

All you do is connect them up as you would any other speaker - bass oem wires to to the 6x9 and treble oem wires to the tweeter. You never join the OEM +'s and -'s together - that won't work possibly blow your amp..... This is why you loose the x over the Lexus amp has an inbuilt x-over thus the 4 wires.
