Dan_Turism0 1JZ vvti would be the way to go imo, loads more bottom end torque and a hell of a lot more headroom should the mood take your fancy Wink

Dan, you are starting to sound like me. Something is wrong with the universe.

I've never looked at the 1JZ-GTE before - that sounds like a great engine! Says the VVTi is 2.5L I6, twin turbo, 280bhp and 280lb/ft as standard, but with smoothnes - sign me up!

How much is a rebuilt/recon'd VVTi TT gonna cost to buy and transplant?

How much work would an engine swap be? I don't really have the space for one I don't think.

And would a piggyback ECU, like the aem one, require a total tune up in order to
Be drivable? Or would I be able to get it to the tuners, which is about 5 miles away?

Anyone got a ball park figure for how much a Turbo conv. would be? £2000? £5000?

Matt_C Well that's what I was thinking, if I was to do a turbo conversion I'd do a single, but if I was to do a swap, with a 1G-GTE, I'd probably want to keep the twin turbo set up, as I understand the way it works is much like the 2JZ TT; it boosts from very low revs, and the second turbo doesn't cut in till later on? So it makes a decent amount of BHP, with a shed load of torque, from 2k and under, then pulls all the way to the redline with the second turbo coming on song at about 3500/4000?

And the fact the 1G is the same family, it should be a simple mount and gearbox mate, no? Whereas the 2JZ would need work to get it bolted up and the gearbox fitting?

Nope the turbos come in together, and yes the gearbox bolts straight up.

your looking at £5k if you do a lot of work yourself imho

1J is definitely the way to go if you want to swap the engine. Either that or get an IS300 and turbo it, probably similar money but an easier job. You will need stand alone management if you swap to a 1J as well, which is £££, well worth it though!

VVTI 1j is a much better engine.

It really depends how much power you want to make in the long run and how much money you have to thrown at it.

If you have a bundle of money all at once then an engine conversion is probably the way to go.

However if you can't afford to thrown all the money at it in one go, then turbo'ing the stock engine would work out better. (either that or save up)

As with an engine conversion you have to do the whole thing in one go, whereas if you turbo the stock engine, you could do the 'basics' first, such as intercooler, turbo, manifold etc. and if you run a boost controller and limit it to the same boost as the supercharger's 0.3bar you could just run a TTE blackbox for a while. Then later on when you have more money, you can upgrade the internals, get a piggyback ecu and crank up the boost a bit.

How much modification would a 1g-gte swap take? Is all the wiring the same? And engine mounts?

Mounts are different, need adapting for the oil return.
wiring completely different as the 1ggte is a dizzy and the 1GFE is direct ecu controlled igntion

I dunno wtf that means, but it does tell me it's farrr to ambitious for me to attempt ATM lol.

Cheers for the info guys, I think I'm just gonna uprate the brakes as my next project. It probably needs doing if I'm planning on adding another hundred ponies or so Big Grin

I do like the sound of the 1JZ VVTi mysel - either that or a 1UZFE with a pair of T4's Big Grin
