Hey people I now have my car running aem fic6, apexi avcr boost controller. Its running at 210bhp at the wheels at 0.4 bar. So I am now looking at updating the spark plugs. Which one would you go for. Also need help on a fuel return line and bits for that. So I can put my 550cc injectors in before I take it down for final mapping as I had a boost drop off

IK22's are what the supercharged guys use running near enough the same boost and power so I'd say those but I'd wait till the more experienced people chip in!

I am running 250bhp and have IK22s, no problems up to now. Have this setup for 2 years now.

I'll probably be outspoken but I won't put iridium plugs in a turbo car... especially one that wasn't built with a turbo in the first place. Slightest bit of knock or det and you can lose the tip off the plug and it's rebuild time. Copper plugs make a much fatter spark anyway. But you do have to replace them every 5,000 miles unlike iridium ones which can do 30,000.

It's not totally down to boost levels (although obviously higher boost can blow the spark) but the air is forced in to the cylinders quite smoothly and progressively with a supercharger where it's not always with a turbo.

Stock plugs in an IS are IK20 (grade 6), supercharger guys use an IK22 which is a grade 7 plug. I'd assume you want a grade 7 (like Stav), you wouldn't normally go up to a grade 8 at that level of power.

thats why i changed to the NGK, it was recommended as i was blowing out the spark when they originally tried to go to 1.2 bar

Just to throw in something left-wing, have you thought about runnign copper plugs when getting the car tuned? Two main benefits..

- If you get detonation, there's less chance of engine damage

- When tuning, the plugs can get fouled (or partially fouled) by rich/lean running while they tune it up. Why waste a decent set of IK22's when you can get some copper ones for a few quid and throw them away after the session?
