And when I checked oil was everywhere again so I'm guessing it's blowing past the rings and straight out the breather?

Would a new set of rings solve this? Or does it need a more intensive rebuild?

if its going past the rings then pistons out and changing them should fix it.

right ive been reading up about engine breathers (everydays a school day)

Im thinkning maybe your PCV valve is blocked?
If its not pulling air through to change the gases then it could be the source of the problem?

Basically the valve on the other side of the head that goes to the inlet manifold.

try that first, certainly a cheaper option!

Would you say THAT much has come out of the breather pipe though?

As a test I'd get an empty water bottle, attach it to the PCV with a tube, top up your oil and see what comes out after some driving.

You might have excessive blow-by and an oil leak somewhere.

EDIT: Just seen that your SC'd...so I hate to say it, but I think its probably the piston rings.

Might be worth getting a scope in there to see if there's any scoring to the cylinder walls so you can assess the extent of any damage.

Sorry for multiple post, but I've just been doing some reading around and a few people have suggested that it could be a blocked exhaust? I'm guessing it would cause a lot of back pressure, forcing oil out of the PCV?

Might be worth checking as SC's are notorious for killing cats?

The front cats are prone to this. Can be checked by measuring the temperature at the front of the cat and then at the back of the cat, or if they rattle when cold - time for a de-cat manifold. You don't really need the front ones anyway so its a silver lining to the cloud.
