This is something I have been working on. In the Gen 2 there is a CMOS battery on the mother board. I found this out when I hit the wrong setting. (All in Japanese) I removed one of the solder leds off the battery. I was able to reload my nav still in Japanese. I am try to reload it with North American maps. I will let you know the out come.

Sounds interesting! I might pay spot the difference when my new nav ecu arrives. Doors anyone know how the nav remotes work? Do they communicate through the little pins in the holder? Or are they just to charge and is the remote infra red to the little window next to the screen?

I'm not sure. My controls are built in on the center console. When you disconnect the CMOS battery off the motherboard for ten min. It loses the firmware so you can install a fresh copy. I have just down loaded new map. When I get home to night I am going to give it a try.

I have to go by the salvage lot tomorrow. I will take a look for you. Being here in Japan (Okinawa side) should be some what easy to find. I hope. Lol
