daft money is no object car build thread
Right, as I'm always thinking of daft ideas for cars, I thought it would be interesting to see what other people come up with. I've got 3 cars I'd love to build but I'll list the main one:
1st gen IS with:
exterior:
077 arctic pearl (or that nice red that soarers came in) with naked OEM carbon bonnet, carbon roof replacement (with no sunroof) and carbon boot, with legana front bumper, TRD side skirts and chargespeed rear bumper (with no diffuser). Bumpers will both be pearl/carbon 2 tone. Slight widebody, to give a hint of the AMG C63 kind of look. GTR bonnet vents.
Q45 + LS460 double projector install on IS300 headlights, with LED angel eyes. Chrome/anthracite 2 tone spray job on the light inserts (like jag XF front headlights if anyone has seen them). Leave the tangos in.
facelift rear lights with 4 skyline style LED rings for sidelights/brakes. Cree projectors for rear fog lights. Noticeable rear tint, but not obnoxiously so. After market projector fog lights for the front bumper.
19" LFA wheels in shadow chrome sitting flush.
interior:
Recaro SR3 front seats + heater elements
nexus 7 tablet in 7" flip up satnav housing (for satnav and car info apps + web and phone tether), pioneer double din and bluetooth microphone, upgraded rear 6x9's and B&W speakers from a jag in the doors for good quality sound. No sub.
Full reupholster in half leather/alcantara with diamond stitching in the centres of the seats. Black leather on black alcantara with light charcoal stitching, double stitched at all seams. Dash upholstered in 2 tone black leather + graphite alcantara, charcoal stitching again, matching the dark/light colour scheme of the existing dash. This kind of theme: http://www.automobileupdates.com/wp-cont...terior.jpg
Cupholders built in to the rear armrest.
Lexus floor mats. Laser cut mirror polished door sills with "lexus" and the logo cut out of them, white LED underlight. Chrome AC control rings. White LED dash lights behind everything, with blue LED's in all the switches (the 3 AC buttons, TRC and heated seat buttons).
IS350 dash cluster.
running gear + suspension + brakes:
3uzfe stroked to 5L, rotrex C38 centrifugal supercharger running 600bhp. Air to water intercooler. T56 6speed transmission with 0.62 6th gear. IS300 torsen LSD. Twin exit exhaust that sits nicely at the rear, no cannon style bean cans. Quiet up to 3000rpm.
Figs everything. Too many bits to list. Meister R coilovers (what else?) and hotchkis antiroll bars.
Balanced 8 pot front and 6 pot rear brakes, with 360mm floating discs. As money is no object, these might as well be carbon ceramic
other toys:
Total close with remote activation (ie, not automatic when the car locks).
footwell lights front and rear that activate with dome light.
Forward facing night vision camera running through flip up screen (or preferably a HUD just for awesome factor) for safer night driving.
Fridge in the glove box
Transparent OLED screen over the number plates so they can be switched to blank at the press of a button, but look normal otherwise.
Additional long range fuel tank in the spare wheel well.
Diplomatic immunity optional.
Why not go all out with ballistic glass, with drop down perriscope with blast shutters and oil slick system for those pesky bad guys following u and missiles in the headlights to clear the path
Although I like exterior bar a few changes the colour is a massive plus

Sounds like an awesome ride, and the exterior bodywork is almost identical to what I was going to do with mine, minus the carbon roof.
The only downside is I can't see night vision working with headlights, one or the other surely? But tbh a minor detail in what is a pretty awesome theoretical build.
I'll have to dig the video out, it's been done before with an image enhancer and I think either a merc or a BMW had it from the factory. I think you'd have to be pretty careful not to overexpose device though.
I know it can be done with thermal imaging, but that might cause problems in overly humid conditions. Would be very easy to spot oncoming cars with thermal imaging though as the heat signature would be huge.
edit: thinking about it, I've got a pair of gen 1+ goggles and that worked fine when the lights were switched on in the house, you just have to make the aperture really small. Gen 3+ stuff should be even better but it's ridiculously expensive.
Edit 2: see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automotive_...cedes-Benz
and here: http://www.sensorsinc.com/nightvision.html
That's a good point David, you couldn't use them at the same time however you could use one or the other at different times. I.e for those sneaky drive bys perfect for nightvision
I'd like a standard looking Mk1 MX5 with an RX7 FD lump in it. Drop it an inch on subtly banded wheels (7.5" should be plenty wide enough), Then have some fun by scaring a few of my mates in the passenger seat.
Would actually just like my own car. With a full carbon roof instead of the wrap and fibreglass boot lid. Then uprated engine internals and full tweaked suspension (poly bushes and figs everything)
I'll get there eventually lol
