Hey Sparky, just wanted to know that i have read this Thread from beginning to end a few times and i have to say sir you are an absolut inspiration, and i really don't mind saying its because of you that i too have started making arrangements to start a 1G-GTE engine swap project but i have a few questions regarding it and even though i don't think i'll quite be going as full tilt as you in terms of modifications i still believe you are the best person to answer thes questions i was really hoping we could have a chat via PM about the details or perhaps my questions and your answers will help others too and they can be posted here all the same?

Any way I have managed to find a local guy that supplies the local market with Japanese import motors and he has quoted me a great deal for a 1 G-GTE motor all in for €950, that includes the Motor (including tubbies), gearbox, ECU, and all import taxes.

As previously mentioned i wont be going all out like you did, my plans are just to add boost to my otherwise OEM setup, so my plan will look a little something like this:

1G-GTE engine
1G-GTE clutch
1G-FE (OEM) 6sp Gearbox, correct me if i'm wrong but this should be compatible due to
them being the same series engine.
1G-GTE ECU, if this is not compatible perhaps you could suggest an alternative solution, otherwise all that i might do is a remap of the GTE ECU
uprated front brakes, perhaps you could suggest the easiest solution for this.
Plan on lowering suspension a wee bit on some coilees, and stiffening the chasis with a top front strut brace a bottom frame front and back.
Some new rims prolly some nice 18's and that should conclude my upgrades list.
Any suggestions from you would of course be welcomed but other then a sound upgrade, and a mat black wrap i'm considering, thats about as far as i want to take my mods.

P.S a quick question about converting from twin turbo to single or variable twin...

I read somewhere that if you were considering the conversion from the "both-tubbies-spooling-together" to "one-spooling-first-then-the-other" but that it was too difficult or something because of that tricky valve nonsense of the JZ motors and that a "bigger-single tubby" situation would be easier and more cost effective but wouldn't a reasonable compromise between both outcomes be a T3-T4 hybrid turbo?... In theory...
cause that in theory is a combination T3 turbo (exhaust side) matted to a T4 turbo (inlet side) working as one turbo or at least giving the boost of a bigger turbo but the spool up of a smaller turbo? I mean correct me if i'm wrong here...

If you want low hassle, keep the 1g-fe, put the GTE bits inside it and buy a turbo manifold for the 1g-fe instead. This way you can use a piggyback ecu, keep the standard gearbox and swap the gte clutch and flywheel and all the rest of your car functions will continue to work. Plus you keep vvti.

edit: There are a few turbo 1g-fe's on here which are worth looking at.

I appreciate the advice Bandito, but considering the fact that the GTE internals on there own are freakishly rare and extremely expensive especially here in ROI and the fact that the only way i could get the engine was to import one through a local engine importer it was the most const effective way of doing the upgrade, so i'm trying my best to work with what i have.

Taking all those bits off the GTE (including flywheel and clutch) and bolting them to a 1g-fe is a more cost effective solution than replacing the entire engine with the GTE. Even including the price of a turbo kit for the 1gfe and a second hand emanage ultimate.

My Point is i would need an engine in Ireland to take the bits off of but there arent any which is why i have to import the whole engine for €950 in which case it woul seem a bit expensive to do so only to take the bit off that are needed, if i could get the bits i needed locally i would defini9tley go for that solution as it would be far less than €950, unless you know of a place where i could get these bits without having to import an engine...

Perhaps you have a link or a site i could find these parts on?

i have to agree with bandit mate, import the engine and remove the bits you need. Makes the whole electronic side so much easier, otherwise youll end up running with 2 ecu, plus a piggyback if you want to up the power.
Dash petrol gauge wont work properly as the gte is dizzy ran so wont have the correct signals back to the standard ecu.

I know it sounds pricey but if you can find an engine cheaper its the way forward. If you want to give me 950E you can have my spare engine for that though.

As for the turbos, youve got to find a single manifold for the gte first. Theyre extremely rare i was lucky to find my HKS one.

aaaah ok my apologies i was under the impression it was a straight plug and play which is why i was a bit confused as to why i would need a piggy back and why i found it a bit expensive to pay €950 just for a few part from an otherwise complete drivetrain also when i say €950 it's all in mate, not just the engine, its the whole engine including oem turbos and manifold, the gearbox and ECU, from japan so its low millage and gauranteed to be in perfect running order as is, but if you say the GTE ECU is not compatible with the FE engine then i'll just use the internals turbos and manifold on my FE engine, then just get a piggy back for my standard ECU, will that work?

I'm also wondering how easy it will be to sell on the parts i don't use unless i keep the lot for other spares
Stav do you have any site suggestions on which i mite be able to find engine parts such as the GTE internals?

You cant use the manifold on the FE engine, then heads are differeny.

Theres no market for GTE spares outside the obvious parts, ive chucked loads of bits away that no one wanted. And sorry no i dont i just search Ebay for parts myself.
