Don't ask why, because it's one of my usual bat **** crazy ideas.

Basically.... All I want to do is remove the pump from the IS200 PAS driven by the aux belt, then install an electric pump and plumb it back in to the usual power steering arrangement.

What do I need, other than the pump? I assume I'm going to need to vary the pump speed as speed increases?

I think Ramplins car has an electric power steering pump. The scooby lads change to then as well. I think they use saxo ones normally.

Not sure about the speeding up with the engine don't think it's needed, think then have a pressure switch and speed up when that builds up (ie you turn the wheel)

Yeah, ive heard Saxo/106 pumps are used quite often to replace standard, especialy in motorsport etc

DaveEdin So.... forgive my ignorance but why...?

in motorsport i think its done for weight, and ease if an engine conversion is carried out.

but for normal road use, i think it may help with reducing the 'load' on the engine, having less pumps/pulleys to turn etc

If you're wondering why Koss is:

I believe he wants to 1G-GZE it, an IS200 engine which is supercharged with performance angled valves in. You have to remove the PAS pump or something to get in an IS200 or something?

Close, but no cigar ;-)

I want the SC14 supercharger from the GZE engine, I need to delete either the AC or the PAS to make room for it on the GFE engine and then drive it from the aux belt directly. I'm also planning on coupling that with the air to water intercooler from the early GTE. Originally, the SC14 sat where the A/C compressor sits on the 1GFE engine, as I quite like having air conditioning, it's much simpler to remove the PAS. That also means I can have a much shorter pipe path between the SC exit and the intercooler inlet, while keeping the exhaust heat shield.

Edit: This allows me to keep vvti head, add the GTE rods, intercooler and the GZE supercharger without having to have an extra belt on the engine. In theory the parasitic losses should be lower, as there are fewer pulleys being driven. The alternator obviously takes up some of that loss, but it's much more efficient than driving another pulley. I also don't have to faff about with an extra tensioner.

edit 2: and leaves all the room above the exhaust manifold for a turbo if I want to try twin charging later.

You may have done this already, but I have done this on my daily driver. I transplanted an Isuzu deisel engine into a Tigra and to keep the power steering I used a pump from a saxo, works a dream and have covered 30k miles with this arrangement trouble free, they are quite big and bulky though meaning mounting can be an issue. Mk3 (or poss mk4) astras use electric pumps too I believe that are much smaller, but never bothered to check this out.

Dunno wether it will work but rx8 has electric power steerjng as well so u may be able to u that pump
