my lex has started doing the same the last couple of days
(sorry for hijacking your post just thought i'd ask here save starting a new thread and getting bashed for it)
can you get to the temp sensor with the underpanel on or will i have to remove it also where is the thermostat on a standard engine had a look but i cant spot it :o.
My fans were working but it was on 3/4 temp earlier and they weren't on so will have to check relay also is this in big box or smaller rectangular box under bonnet. And i think the coolant has evaporated now as top of rad looks dry and cant see anything in expansion tank level, so will have to order some red stuff, but in the meantime any suggestions on a temp coolant
any help much appreciated

sorry forgot to add
Heating is taking longer than normal to pump out hot air but it is going hot.
More of a problem when stationary.
Highest temp has gone is the last bar under the red zone

You need to top it up ASAP, don't be driving it with the system not full IMHO.

The thermo stat is on the exhaust side of the engine, about half way down.

And the temp sensor is in the same area

right
have topped up car but it only took 1/2 litre. Topped rad up so about 10mm ( oops ) from top then filled expansion to 1/4 but could only get
[Image: IMAG0094.jpg]
Started her up left get to normal temp, turned heating on and off, temp held rock solid just under 1/2 where its always been rad fans kicked in once but only briefly took for a quick blast around block let idle again for 5mins all ok. Will update again tomorrow after drive to work and back
Honestly though wouldn't have thought losing that amount would give me that much of a problem
Still couldn't see my thermostat and temp sensor though :confused1: do i need to remove heat shields off exhaust or not ( hint if anyone got a pic :winkSmile as i must be having a blonde moment

Sorry I was wrong, switch is at the bottom of the rad, on the drivers side. Can be seen from above but if your changing them you'll need to drain fluid so best taking the cover off.

Here's a pic of manual and the thermostat location.

ah ha that's what I thought been doin my head in but it's sitting behind water pump yes. Think though my rad has popped somewhere have taken photos today ( was going to ask if was thermo housing but previous illustration has confirmed it )so will post when get home from work. Drove to work temp was where its been for last 3 years just shy of half way mark, but when I checked on my break expansion tank was empty. When I was checking last night did see what looks like coolant crust around both sides top of rad and around thermo/water pump.
By the way where and what manual did you get pic from Spark as I cant find any apart from a garage cd on fleabay
