I love the whine of the supercharger and the fact that as its belt driven the boost is there when you need it but can you fit a dump valve to it?
On the other hand I love the whistling of a turbo, especially with dump valve attached and the fact there is a build up boost gets the adrenaline going.
As we all know the is200 is around 153hp so would like to see which mod also offers the best performance gain.

Morning all, not sure if there's another thread on this but what would be better, turbocharging or supercharging my is200?

i run a DIY supercharger and for money value its better my kit cost around £700 with minimal work to the engine and ecu, plus any dramas i can just disconnect and still run the car NA, power wise with a charger you can get between 200-220bhp on the 130mm pulley so plenty of extra power for not to much £££.
with regards the BOV yes you can fit one to a charger however it needs to run along side a Bypass as the pressures from a charger wont work a BOv alone correctly, if its just a noise you want then a bypass will do that and i ran just a bypass for years and have just fitted a BOV to work along side

would i have liked a turbo of course but the money behind building a kit like that and the items that you need made it less viable then building a charger kit from scratch
with regards Turbo you have more scope for bigger power but if your gonna fit a turbo you need the money behind you to do it right, cheap copies of turbos arent very good and ECU for best mapping will be needed Jimbob built his turbo kit so maybe ask him with regards cost whats needed and things like that.

10-06-2023, 10:44 PM #4I will second the turbo route is not cheap I think I'm £2000 into it and that's goin cheap on some things (second hand etc) the turbo was £1100 on its own but it's a brand name, the Ecu is next on my list to get.

yeah as above some things you just cant cheap out on, ive seen turbo builds done at around just about 2k but the turbo is cheap and cant see it lasting long and then thats without an ecu as well

10-06-2023, 10:53 PM #6That's without building the engine to run over 0.5 bar. If you can't find 1g-gte pistons and rods there is some forged out there but there £1800 a set

11-06-2023, 03:22 AM #9Worth noting that there are plenty of other sized pulleys available on the Facebook groups. Not sure what a 150mm will get you power wise but you can get one for less than 100 quid.
