Little write up on the evolution of my car
Little write up on the evolution of my car
Haha you know you're my favourite welder. But I needed a rush job lol
Well inlet is back!
So had a bit of time in the garage tonight, cleaned all the oil off the block from the other day, ripped the old loom out, finished the new one, and then began fitting it!
Then I got the inlet back on and started making the engine Bay look half decent again!
Just this lot to do next.....
Also took a bit of time to port the inlet a bit, as there was a fair lip on some of the inlet runners, so out with the die grinder and took some material away. Not perfect but should certainly help!
Still waiting on the new catch can, though the weld on fittings have arrived so I may get them on this weekend as well hopefully (I'll weld them myself Morey as the cam covers are steel)
Obviously the priority will be to get the interior wires all fitted so I can test the ecu and all the signals; but I want to measure the cams as well if i get chance.

Cheers mate.
The bonus for you is you can at least drive the car I can't even do that lol
Well unfortunately when I compression tested the engine before JAE I was down on one cylinder
So the winter rebuild begins!
Think it's only rings, but I'll find out this weekend when the head comes off.
Will give me the chance to do all the other jobs as well though a lot easier.

A bit of an update,
well it was rings, kind of, the ringlands between top and middle on cylinders 3 and 4 were cracked
Not sure why but could have been a limiter bounce that caused it, or maybe it was damaged when i was running too high compression last year with the thin headgasket.
Either way a full rebuild of the bottom end is needed. So although im currently working a lot of nights im starting to crack on.
The list of jobs is huge but basically:
Rebuild engine
Possible new manifold
New steering setup
tidy brake lines
possible engine bay respray (time or funds dependent)
Finish new ecu install
Tidy remaining wiring
Then if i have any money left try and get some of the body work tidied up.
Already started on the engine, its all stripped down, new crank is machined and ready to fit; all rings and bearings purchased, replacement pistons checked for cracks and now with machinists for ringland adjustments.
Unfortunately Toyota seem to have less and less stock of gaskets and parts for the engine; but ive manged to get enough seals to get it back together, although not cheap.
Nice start mate cant wait to see this up and running again!
Still working a lot of nights at the moment (40 in the last 54 days) so havent had much time to work on the car.
i have been spending though.......
My new Turbo manifold arrived today though. Gone from the log manifold to a Tubular one. Ordered it last thursday from Austraila. Its been made and shipped and then delivered to mine this afternoon! Great service!
So hopefully in the next week or so ill finish stripping the engine bay and sort out where the new pipe work will run then i can give that a blow over to repair the damaged paint from a brake line leak i had last year.
After that its on with building the engine, and refitting it. That will then allow me to mock up the new downpipe as the turbo location has changed obviously.
After i can get back to the interior. Finish the wiring changes, run the new brake lines, then put that back together.
Hopefully get it to a running state by middle of Jan, then take my time sorting the exterior if i can find some more money and get it remapped again with the new ecu, and manifold.
