I think 2009 was his "growing up" year. The 1st race really saw to that.

I agree that it's very hard indeed to come back, even if you're only planning to take a year out. There's such competition for seats, there would have be an extremely good reason to take a chance on a driver who hasn't had any practice for a year !

IS200 Turbo project now just about complete ! See my thread here and leave your comments.
Now running standalone Syvecs ECU and no stock ECU !

Have to admit that's what I've had a problem with ever since he came on to the scene but it does seem he has grown a lot recently - obviously he's been out of the limelight a bit over 09 but let's see how things turn out in 2010 if he has a competitive car.

Marsdendean i think its the car that has helped him all the way this year

Agree with you to a point - Rubens is a stunning driver and couldn't keep up with JB. JB has the talent no doubt but he will not win against Hamilton (baring accidents/reliability etc)

And I agree with that to a point, I think Rubens had the measure of Jenson through the second half of the season (right up till the last few races) - the problem is if the car is perfect, Button is unstoppable, a little bit either side of that and he struggles.

He has never displayed an ability to drive around a poor car (last few years when Honda was rubbish, Rubens consistently outperformed him), which is why I can't see how he can provide any meaningful competition to Lewis.

In comparison, Alonso will get hassled a lot more by Massa than Lewis by Jenson. That's just my prediction, but using the facts to date it's the only logical one.

And Alonso will play his stupid games again. He can't stand real competition.

I heard an interesting explanation for the performance gap between Rubens and Jenson - in the 2nd half of the season Rubens' engineers erected a barrier between his side of the garage and Button's. Button supposedly can't set up his own car so was using setup ideas from the other side of the garage.

Your thoughts? Smile

Yeah that's not a rumour, they used to say that all the time within the team - and I think Ross Brawn even said at the end that Jenson owes Rubens a lot as he really helped him with setups. Towards the end they were sharing a lot less information than at the beginning of the season.

I don't think that will be a big problem at McLaren though, they appear to be better at sorting things without too much input from the driver going on the past.

@2tongues: The battle within Ferrari actually excites me more than the rest, I hope his absence and injury hasn't affected Massa too badly. Especially with the way they forced Raikkonen out, I'm really hoping Ferrari have some real trouble with Alonso next season
