Don't want to get too political on here, but the conservatives are the lesser of two evils. The mayor has proved that - the bendy buses are disappearing, he has scrapped the western extension, he scrapped the £25 CO2 charge, has retained the 100% exemption for the alternative fuel vehicles (like the RX400/450h and GS450h) and is now including the whole of London rail within the oyster network which will increase simplicity and reduce fares for several commuters.
It's really unfair to just say he's done nothing (as most seem to say for no actual reason) when he's clearly made a huge difference to living costs in London and the same can be said for a conservative government.
Not that i don't agree with you on some points Parthiban.
But where has the money gone that been raised by the London mayors department?
I bet most of the money raised by the GLA is going to the Olympic At £9.3 billion is this really cost affective?
The rest of the money going to GLA is paid out in renting the building and then office up dates along with the over generous pensions paid to the staff.
This will by no means be the final figure, this already sounds like the white elephant of the O2 area.
Why should Londoner be expected to foot the bill for this?
Are the roads conditions around London any better i would say no as there are so many pot holes and digging up of pipe works going on so the roads are batched and not fully repaired.
London is the top worldwide visited spot but this was the case when the Goverment were in charge of the purse strings as well.
:Shooting:The mayor is a :cursing: he says one thing, and does another, just try stopping anywhere in london to answer a phone call and u get a ticket, pay £8 to drive in the city,no parking, but they want u to work their, think i'll stop now :cursing::cursing::cursing::cursing:
I totally agree with you Lexusboy, imho the olympics is getting ridiculous but I actually think the mayor agrees - wasn't it quite recent that he was trying to move some events to a pre-existing building to save costs but the olympic commission shot it down as it had been agreed to provide x number of new buildings?
I understand what's being said, I used to live in the zone, regularly pay the congestion charge, but no one can argue that under Ken things were better than with Boris. If Ken was still in, I would have had to pay £125 per week to drive my car to my home, compared to the £4 a week it costs now. Is that fair?
It's the same with government, neither is perfect, but we'll all be much better off with a tory at No.10 than with Gordon there at present because rich or poor we're getting absolutely fleeced at the moment, without getting any benefit whatsoever (just look at the state of the roads as a starting point)
Question is we have had many good years so where was the money put away during them to ready us for the rainy days?
All new goverments only ever add taxes and non reduce the number of taxes we all pay.
It is getting to easy to add taxes to tobacco and drinks and motorist.
Every £100 we spend £10 goes to the country debt.
Agreed, we are likely to be in a mess for quite some time, and usually people are quick to forget who got things in a mess in the first place !
