Asi thats freeky

Oi! You lot!
We are both happily married men just having a chat and a bite to eat, nothing else!! :Chair: Its not like we went out on Valentines Day...... (erm... for those that know that story)

Actaully Gord, Geoff (when he can) and I normally meet every few weeks after work and just catch up and "chew the fat" and put the world to rights. We also enjoy watching the Chavs in McDonalds Car Park driving around and doing hand brake turns, knackering the clutch, thinking they are Schumacher etc in "mummy and daddys" BMW/Merc/Audi or some chaved out Saxo/Corsa. Gord is king of the Chavs -thats the real reason he bought the Azbo ST Big Grin

There is a guy that turns up in a Yellow Evo too normally and poses about -would have been cool to run into him but he wasn't there. Wink

Gord had a drive of the EVO........ It was really cold last night and hit a new high of 29.2psi BOOST...:w00t: I'll let him say what he thinks..... but he was impressed how drivable it is.

I got the tyres fitted. Deffo more grip but the didn't get the geometry done. Paul at Drury Lane couldn't fit me in but I am going Tuesday instead.

Paul at Drury Lane actually used to go racing with his mate in an Evo 6 so he is really looking forward to seeing it. Evo's don't actually have that many adjustments on them either - toe and camber is the main adjustment on them.

I love your evo anees Sad am thinking about a 8 mr fq320 (want the mr for the obv engine/suspension upgrades but mainly the 6speed box) they seem to be fairly cheap to buy nowadays too looking around 12k iirc.

There's a yellow cat-D on ph going for 10k with full 9mr conversion

To be honest its a bit high that really, but it only peaks at that and really I should get cams to make it safer at that power level. I am more then happy with it at the moment and I don't hammer that often so should be fine....Wink

We had a chat about Evos at the WIM meet a while back and you said they they were abit fragil. The Evos pre-6 do suffer from crankwalk, but the 6 onwards appear to be pretty good (fingers crossed!) I think your Skyline would be quicker top-end, like the Aristo I'm sure is, but by the time the car has got their the Evo has gone! I didn't want a top-end car!

Yeh the skyline does shift top end, (not slow getting there) but if i got a 3" downpipe, EBC, and FMIC and have it remapped it would make around 340-360bhp for around £500, at the moment its around the 310bhp area with basic mods,

I had a bit of a race a few months back with a bmw645 and at 150 i went past him, (with a big smile on my face) the look on his face was great as a 15 year old motor went sailing past him

But its not bad with an average time of around 6 seconds to 60mph and a 150+ top end :w00t: so for an old motor its got the best of both worlds with top end and bottom end power :thumbup1: Shame its got to go Huh

How's it on fuel mate? do they eat it like most people say? or does it all depend on the setup and how you drive it?

Got a link Smile That seems really cheap.

First thing I would do is check the insurance mate! I'm 27, Married, FULL NO CLAIMS but my postcode is very dodgy and of the companies that would insure me I got quotes of around £4K!! Thats before the mods! :crying::crying: Luckily I am self-employed however so managed to get business insurance much cheaper, that covers my diesel too Smile

The only issue with a Cat D is to make sure you can get pictures before the repair. Their is no problem with a cat D in my eyes if you know the repair is of a good standard. You don't want a car that was bent as a bananna and then repaired if you can avoid it. Just light panel damage is ok.

Mileage is also very important - mine has only just 21K but had 3 previous owners so its been used as a toy hence the low mileage. The last MOT was at 19K miles! lol. I think you can normally tell if a car is mint.

If you are going to Mod it then don't get a high powered version to start off with, because you will have to take most the extra bits off anyway to make it faster like on the FQ-340 which has a piggy-back ECU which is not needed. On MLR some of the best cars are actually the basic GSr 260s because the owners have saved a stash buying them and then modded them exactly as they want using the cash they have saved! Cheaper initial insurance too Wink Spent the money on handling/power etc.

One other thing I would say is what you want from the car? I have been thinking about this recently after a thoughtful post on MLR:

Quote:All the best with the sale Paul, been in the same boat myself dude, walking past the lump of dead money in the drive daily, getting into the daily grind mobile wondering why the Evo isn't been taken
I haven't used mine since the beginning of december
just waiting for the sh itty weather to ****** off , which should be just about in time for another £400 tax disc
To be honest if you are in this mindset, when it sells it will actually be a relief, and you will soon forget about it and enjoy the stress free life of not owning a moneypit.

If all you want is a second car to drive at maximum attack mode and have some fun then I would honestly save a fortune and buy a mint Evo 3 - 5 (check crankwalk issues however). My mate recently sold his Evo 3 for £3650 and it was great fun and a toy you could hammer and enjoy. It still looked the part yet because he didn't have loads of money tied up in it he could enjoy it more.

HIS CAR Big Grin
[Image: 1.jpg]

The newer Evos are a bit softer and remember the Evo 3 is around 1250Kg compared to 1400Kg for the Evo 7 - 9 so don't need as much but will feel just as quick and are more raw too.

Sometimes the money scares me- what if??

Too many people buy them and then polish them to death - they are meant to be driven HARD. Before I bought one I found it funny when owners take them off the road for the winter or if its wet. I mean its a Road Going Rally car for goodness sake!!

But I now do understand......... running costs are expensive and even if the Evo can handle and brake better then other cars in poor conditions it doesn't stop some other herbert running into the back of you! You start getting worried about where to park it, what is happenning when you can't keep an eye on it. What is parked next to it? Will I get pulled? I was with Gord yesterday and to be honest he spent more time looking behind then in front because its a car that draws attention and sounds like its going fast even when its not.

I let another trusted mate (Nads who help me alot mod the car) borrow the car for a weekend and he rang me on Sunday and asked if he could drop it off! :blink:He just said that that he couldn't relax with it. When he took it out Saturday night and parked it up he had to keep going back to check on it every five minutes and he was just tense all the time.

Sorry if I sound all somber - just just have a good think Big Grin
