A litre of fuel is around (leaving the fuel depot) 40p - 45p a litre so you are paying around 75p tax per litre

So if have a 60 litre tank you will pay the goverment tax of £45.00 per tank.
That is with out the up coming 3p increase.

If history has anything to teach us - and it has, every time there has been huge fuel price increases there has been a recession (some small, some like this one) shortly after. So we get out of one and straight back into another one. Thanks Gordon B.

Think all the government employees should be on minimum wage for 12-24 months and made to use public transport and pay for everything themselves and see how they like it? the country would save quite a few £'s :Chair:

This is getting silly now, as many have said my last fill up was £82 with V Power being £1.21 a litre at the mo - I have to say I'm a bit confused though as there should be many people out there who simply can't afford fuel at this price but it hasn't happened? Huh

They know there's no alternative, which is why the motorist gets screwed. We can try and do something but what can we do? As an example my commute to work by car takes just over an hour, on public transport it takes hours.......I could swap but I can't be bothered enough to put up with that much extra pain to make a point - and I think the rest of the country feels the same way.

The only thing I probably could do would be to swap to diesel or LPG - that way we'd be reducing our fuel costs (and therefore tax payouts) but still not compromising our lives too much..........

Even if petrol gets to £2 a litre (it better not), it is still cheaper for me to make the 40 round journey to work in my IS200 instead of using 2 buses and 2 trains.

But yes, petrol is starting to become a luxary item for some of us- its not called black gold for nothing.
