Hi Just acquired a 12" sub (thanks terry) and a 400watt amp (thanks Chris)
The sub is a 4ohm dual voice coil, what is the correct way to wire it to the amp, amp will be bridged (Mono) running sub only. 4ohm

The sub has two terminal blocks + - and + -

I want the best deeep bass drop not outright chavvy volume,

Thanks guys

OK if dual 4 Ohm it can be wired as either 2 Ohm or 8 Ohm NOT 4 Ohm.

To get 4 Ohm you need a dual 2 Ohm speaker. I fell into this trap but the lads a Bass Junkies swapped the speaker over for me.

The dual 2 ohm voice coil subs can be wired for either 1 Ohm or 4 ohm.

You cannot run single coil supply you will damage the speaker!!

hope that helps I can do a diagram if you want?

Thanks Phil, what would be the best performer, low or high impedance, and yes a wiring diagram would help,

Either way mate, they are designed to be flexible. Whatever your amp can supply most off. My old Lex. was running 1 Ohm sub, the MR2 is running 4 Ohm the limiting factor is the Amp not the speaker.

put the ohm meter on the terminals and came out as 2 ohm when he wired it up for the 8ohm system.

OOPs copy and pasted it the wrong way around, will re-do the diagram - better still a link to all the info you will need!! link

Yours would be OK if the signal to BOTH coils is identical, and the gains are also identical.

Right, easy simple question for you,,,

400watt bridged mono at 4 ohm, amp
4ohm dual voice coil Sub.

Why can't I just use One voice coil and NOT connect to the other, seen on a USA forum that this is perfectly feasible and used by many installers with no know problems, overheating or burnt out electric's, to me this is the simplest way to connect a rated 4ohm amp and sub????

Why do I need to connect both voice coils to get 2ohms or wire it different to get 8ohms, cant work that one out,

Cheers as always guys,
