Front Bumper removal
Front Bumper removal
ok, a couple of months ago I bumpred my car squeezing thru a gap that wasn't big enough to turn thru, scuffing the front bumper, which doesn't quite sit flush now, I plan to remove it, check for damage to fittings, and replace straight if possible, do I need to remove the headlights to get the bumper off?
Also, how easy is the removal of the rear bumper and is it advisable to disconnect the battery?
rory you planned any other work on the car?
yeh I have a few more plans Saraj, I want a genuine TRD kit to replace the current cheap one, and full cream leather interior, will settle for half leather if its mint, but thats all as I don't earn very much at the moment, so I have plenty of saving to do first, wouldn't mind gettin the dents and scratches touched up if possible, as its all just to make it sellable, but no rush to sell anymore
Rear Bumper Removal
1. Open boot lid and remove, floor/toolkit/spare wheel.
2. Remove the boot side liners on both sides ( the little plastic clips just pull out - give them a good hard pull!)
3. Remove the clips retaining the black plastic "scuff guard" covering the bottom of the boot entrance (there is a cut out for the boot lock latch with a little rubber edging on it) and then remove the plastic guard.
4. Remove both rear main tail lights - remove the 2 black plastic plugs to gain access to the retaining screws. you might find that the lights are difficult to remove, you just need to work them free, the 2 screws are the only things u need to remove. Also remove the bulbs after you have removed the lights
5. Go underneath the car - you will see about 5 tangs from the bumper, these are retained by black plastic push in studs - remove these, they will be brittle and break .
6. If you have a good look where u removed the scuff guard you will see about 4 (?) nuts - these help retain the bumper - you will need a deep reach socket for these as the bolt is very long.
7. In the corners of the boot ( where u removed the boot liners) you will see a little white square/circle of plastic about 7mm wide, this square/circle has 4 little tangs/barbs coming off it - squeeze these flat with some pliers and push the square to remove it from the body - at the same time grab an edge of the bumper opposite the square and pull outwards a little as this makes it easier - do the same for the other side. Now remove the last 2 cross head screws securing the bumper by the rear wheel arch top
8. get a blanket or something on the ground under the bumper to protect the bumper if u drop it!!!, have a good look around the bumper and check that all is loose, now just pull it free from the body, BUT only pull it free a tiny amount - have a look and see where any edges clip in/go under etc as it will save you problems later! If possible get a friend to help u to remove the bumper.
refitting is a straight reversal of removal - EXCEPT for the little white square with the tangs - you need to extend the tangs after fitting to prevent the bumper from moving away from the vehicle body.
Fry-Up ah the benefits of copy and paste, read this one already lol, cheers for that Russelllin, will be easier to find when I get round to doin the back one now.
