It's just there to contain the dust. I'm not quite clear if it's to stop the brake dust getting into somewhere specific (like the wheel hub), or just a general thing to keep things a bit cleaner.

IS200 Turbo project now just about complete ! See my thread here and leave your comments.
Now running standalone Syvecs ECU and no stock ECU !

The back plate is also there to channel cooling air to the rear face of the brake disc, to stop water getting on to the disc as well,
I would reshape it and leave it in place.

1990 Eunos Roadster in Mariner DU blue
Cobalt cat back, Decat pipe, 15in Red Rota GT3 alloys, Toyo tyres, Lowered on Coil overs, Red anti roll bars, 14degree timing mod, white dash kit, illuminated side marker lights,
Halo ring headlights, OEM windblocker, Bluetooth streaming HU, Blue leather handbrake and gear lever gaitor, Centre brake/tail light mod, Blue velour door cards, Polished cam cover, Polished front strut bar, 4xheadrest speakers, JDM floor mats, Suede semi dish steering wheel,

It might be the break pads? Dean had a similar problem with his, but it was because his brake disk was slightly warn, leaving a lip on the edge of the disk. This then cought on the brake disks.... its common i though? (As it made the same noise without changing the pads)
