Fuel consumption - I know, I know, there's a million threads on this...
I didn't buy the IS cos it does great mileage, but I've found it to be better than my last car

I've seen that Ormi got 210 miles out of a full tank of v-power, and that was a bit of an eye opener.
I've been running on standard unleaded since I bought the car in Feb, and was getting 340 miles to a tank, which I thought was pretty good. But last week I filled up with v-power (cos the standard pump was out of order and I couldn't be bothered moving to another pump) and lo and behold, 381 miles later the wee light has come on.
Not only did the car feel smoother and more responsive, but I got 41 extra miles for about a fiver extra in the tank.
I finally understand why people pay for the more expensive petrol - and have joined those ranks...
Now all I gotta do is work out what that is in mpg :lol:

There was a item on fith gear once about the benefits of V-Power and other similar fuels and it showed that not only do they return better MPG but also better performance, I should use it really but my missus moans when I do because it's £1.25 a litre.

It seems to vary for different people, but I found that the combination of V Power and the K&N filter has improved my fuel economy slightly. In fact the recent warm weather has really helped too, I'm currently averaging 26-27mpg which is quite amazing considering........

Well I thought I would let you know how I'm doing in terms of fuel consumption on my three cars. Firstly the LS. I'm running it on Sainsbury's 95RON petrol. The computer is telling my it's averaging 22MPG at present. I'm preety happy with that. My Nissan Micra driving school car is averaging 42MPG. It's a 1.2 petrol with a 4 speed automatic. Now, here comes the best bit. My Honda Civic which has a 1.4 litre engine (non vtec) which is also an automatic averaged on it's first tank, 27MPG. That's right. Just 5 more than the LS. I'm hoping this gets better over time. The lady who had it before me hardly ever used it so I'm hoping with some longer runs, things will improve. I just don't understand why it's only getting slightly better than a car which weighs 2 tonnes and has a 4.3 litre V8 engine.

21-03-2017, 03:37 AM #9crikey jim thats bad on the civic-it could still be "tight" from low miles and short stop start journeys as well - might be worth giving it some redline action as well just to wake it all up a bit-i presume its reasonably up to date on oil and filter and air filter change etc

That is a bit of a shocker on the civic, has it been serviced regularly? Lack of use might mean it needs a few bits changed that may have decayed over time.......
