Does sound a wee bit off on the Civic - definitely needs a wee look, that one, surely it should be a fair bit higher...

The Civic has a full Honda mail dealer service history. The only thing I can think of was when I had the AC services last week, I know they leave the engine on whilst they do this so that might have had a say in it. It's next service is due in September but it is going to an inde who I have used for years. This car has had such an easy life though. The rear tyres were original and had to be changed yesterday, not because the tread was low, infact the tread had hardly been worn. It was because the side walls had perished. The fronts are heading that way soon and will probably need replacing by September also.

Maybe once the Civic gets through another tank or two of fuel it'll sort itself out, particularly if it hasn't had much use ?

If it stays at that level of consumption then surely there's something wrong with it. I expect it'll improve soon though (maybe it was just the a/c thing, as you suggest Jim ?).

IS200 Turbo project now just about complete ! See my thread here and leave your comments.
Now running standalone Syvecs ECU and no stock ECU !

is there a performance version of fuel for the diesel?

and does that have the same effect as the v-power petrol is having? i.e. smoother performance/more miles?

Yep. Total do Excellium diesel, BP do Ultimate diesel and Shell do VPower diesel. I'm sure there are others as well.

Can't comment on performance increases though as I have no experience of these "performance" diesel fuels.
