My Battery is flat.
I went to go out in the LS today. I havn't used it in a couple of weeks since buying the dog car (Honda Civic). Anyway, the smart locking was all slow and when you turned the smart thing to start the engine, nothing. I bought a battery booster from Halfords today and got it going with that. I took it for a run for an hour which seems to have put some charge back in the battery and I have also turned off the smart locking so it's not constantly looking for the keys which should save a bit more on battery power.
I had a look at battery chargers today and reading the instructions that came with them they all recomend that you remove the battery from the vehicle if your going to charge the battery. Now, with the dizzying array of electrical things in my LS, I don't want to spend the rest of the year setting everything back up to how I had it if I disconnect the battery. So, my question is, what would happen if I tried to charge the battery using a battery charger without disconnecting it from the car?

I've just been and had a look. It appears to be a sealed battery. It is a genuine Toyota battery which is a couple of years old now. It has a health indicator on it. Currently it is black which according to the instructions on the battery, means it needs charging. Is it worth buying a battery charger and leaving it on the battery till it goes green?

I've been out battery charger shopping today. Went to Argos and got a Black and Decker automatic charger. Apparently it knows which type of battery it's charging and sorts itself out. It got the battery indicator back to green. Even though my battery had about 75% charge left, I suppose it needs alot of juice to start a V8. All sorted now though.
It was £80 from Argos. This charger has an LCD display telling you what it's doing but you can't choose charging speeds as it does this automatically. It also has the option to check the alternator as well which I didn't do. I thought it was the best charger for someone like me who doesn't have a clue about battery's.
Also worth buying a good jump start unit like a sealey to start the car if its flat, as your car sits around quite a lot.
