Got back yesterday Big Grin When I picked my car up from Luke's on Saturday I got "You *really* need new rear tyres". I foolishly didn't get anything done about them and then when I got to the Chateau realised that my driver's rear was showing tiny amounts of canvas... I chanced it going back up to Boulogne Monday but didn't want to get points if I got stopped in the UK, so I had to do the trip from Dover to Buckingham on the space saver at 50mph!! Got home at about 16:30 yesterday and straight back into work today Sad

Was a great trip as always, my camera died on the Wednesday morning so I don't have too many photos. Weirdly the hotel that we stayed in Monday night at Dover was right next door to SVA Imports so I have more photos of their stock than of the race!! We went to a massive car show on the Friday, with a special section for the UK Corvette Owners Club which was absolutely fantastic.

The race itself was a great watch, apart from Mansell crashing out on lap 4 which resulted in a 30 minute safety car period. It looked like it was all going Peugeot's way, until slowly but surely they started failing. First out was the car that qualified pole, with a suspension failure. Next the engine of the number 3 Peugeot blew its right bank. After that the number 1 Peugeot (driven by Marc Gené, Alex Wurz and Anthony Davidson, which had already clipped the Corvette that was leading GT1 and spun it out) blew its right bank and retired. This car had been catching the Audi in 2nd place and was only 1 lap away from the lead Audi! That only left the Oreca 908 (Peugeot customer team) which also failed in the same way! Once they were out of the way that left an Audi 1-2-3 and a formation finish. Once Pug #1 had taken out the Corvette leading GT1 the win was opened for the Saleen S7R which was a real shocker! Of course the token Lambo caught fire and both Ford GTs went out. That's all I can remember for now...

A few records were broken this year too, the car that won did the longest race distance, beating a record set in 1971! I believe Sebastien Bourdais qualifying time in the #2 Peugeot might be a record as well. It was certainly significantly faster than last year, but with a much smaller air restricter. Everyone was faster though, which suggests that the work the ACO has done resurfacing the track has had a big effect.
