I dislike those who could work for a living and choose not to because they can't be ar5ed. Anyone else is OK by me! No worries with people on benefits, those who cannot work and so on.

Apologies if I offended you in any way Chri5! Wasn't the intent...

I personally don't take offence but I do dislike what's being said.
Not everybody that lives in social /council or housing association (as I do) is scum.
And i think it's wrong to say 99.9% are scum.
Yes these types of housing areas are stereotypical but it only takes a minority to make it this way.
All ppl see is the **** and filth that the minority (imo) bring to these places.
But if you put pigs in palace then what do you get??? A pig sty.

But I do agree that those who can work but screw every penny off the state do really annoy me.
But look in another way if ppl get money for nothing then who's at total fault.

Thanx for the apology dave and carp Smile but it's really not needed.
After all these are your own opinions.
If we can't have them then we all become the same

The main problem is a lot of people dont realise how much social housing there actually is. They hear of/know the usual council estates, but there are a lot more ares that look more like private housing which are in fact council owned. The dodgy, more obvious coucil areas get the bad name attached to them, which means people brand all council places as scum.

totally agreed on both accounts, it is the "minority" against the "majority"

Chri5 - i as Dave probably felt the apology was justified as the grouping of said social housing users was done in an un-fair way, my feelings in my last post, about my friend using social housing does portray a better picture of my understanding, but the original post grouped every social housing user under the same banner

Yep as I mentioned we had a normal private house that was let to the council to use as social housing and all I saw in about 10 years was scum.

And I apologise for my view on this, but it has had a tainting effect on the whole idea of it - so many times the "residents" smashed up our house because they new they would be rewarded with a larger house!

At the end when we got the house back and the last "residents" had to leave - they didn't just go peacefully to their next house that was being provided free of charge by our money, but they took everything that was in our house first. And I mean EVERYTHING, there wasn't a single thing left in it. They took the kitchen units, the carpets, some of the bathroom - even the f*****g radiators and light bulbs!

Again I know there are lots of decent people out there and the fault is with the system, but that whole experience just makes me so furious with the whole thing...........:cursing:

I can understand that your annoyed at the system.
But IMO it's the system at fault in a lot of cases with these ppl that know how to play the system.
I have lived in my house over 4years now my mrs has been here 12.
She has the same kitchen that was put in prior to her moving in.
Why you may ask.....
It's in too good of a condition.
Things like that do **** me off as you feel there is no reward for looking after what is essentially my property.
So I do see both sides of this thread.

Yep there are lots of people who do treat the homes as their own, and those people really deserve their homes. In many cases I wouldn't mind if they were the ones who got moved into better homes for good behaviour, rather than the ones who either smash up the last one, or become baby factories to move into 7 bedroom mansions.........

Also know of people who bought their council homes on the cheap back when it was possible and instead of using it to make a quick buck, actually turned the opportunity into a great family home.

There are decent people out there, but it's unfortunately the government has led to a system where everyone gets screwed - in many ways it's the decent people in social housing who have the worst deal as they have to live amongst it and get nothing back.

I know of a few ppl that did that too.
My mates parents paid 7k for there's back in the early 90's under the right to buy scheme
although they spent a lot of time and money doing it to how they want. But it's now a very nice house with a large garden, double garage (even has a pit in the garage Smile )
ok it's in a council area but they've made it their own Smile

not all council areas are bad and not all these ppl that live in them are stereotypical of what ppl in private estates portray.
But unfortunately some folk don't have a choice of where they live and would choose these houses over a caravan or cardboard box.
If I could get a mortgage then I would but I don't think I'll ever be able to save the 35-40grand just to get the deposit.
Maybe when my parents pass then I'll gave that from inheritance but I'd rather not think about it that way.
