I think what you've said there Gord is the important fact, even for an Apple fan, if you think about it the iPad is a hard one to justify. A macbook in iPad form would have been pure genius, but they knew they didn't have to do it as there are enough people out there who just want one of these - my prediction is there'll be a lot of these on ebay after a year or so as people realise that they have no use for it.

Although the iPhone wasn't for me and I strongly disagree with the pricing strategy (it's because of cupertino that 18 and 24 month contracts have drifted into the UK :angrySmile it was a device that revolutionised the phone industry and gave a real kick up the a$$ to the other manufacturers. Phones like the desire I have are brilliant and every bit as good (if not better) than the iPhone but wouldn't have existed if the iPhone hadn't started it off.

I understand what you're saying though in the mac vs PC debate, my desktop running XP has never had any real problems, but to keep it that way it does require regular maintenance with regard to viruses, spyware etc. I still prefer Windows for the simple reason that it gives you all the options, whereas with macs you sort of have to do it their way or not at all (which I realise is fine for the majority of users)

However Apple's days of not being attacked by spyware and the like are numbered - there's nothing about the actual system that keeps it safe, it's just that people aren't producing the stuff to attack the mac as it's more fun to bring down Microsoft. But with Apple really gaining ground, and them starting to become a corporation that techy geeks love to hate it's only a matter of time before the bad stuff gets written for mac........

Anyhoo, we've drifted off topic a little there, has this iPad in the dash thing actually been done or was it hypothetical? If it has been done I'd be keen to see how it looks

I thought what is the point of an ipad till i used a mates of mine and i loved it.

if i had the money i would get one and if i got one would try and find a docking station andmodify my dash to try and mount it. Not only to have an ipad in my car but then would have a built in satnav, music hard drive and i would work away out of feeding it into aftermarket tvs in head rests and headunit.

So i would not have to carry dvds, cds, ipod, satnav and everything round with me.

I wouldhave it all in a nice sized single unit.

BHP, TORQUE, UNDER STEER, OVERSTEER FOR DUMMYS
BHP- how fast you hit the wall, TORQUE- how far you push the wall
OVER STEER- Dont see the wall, UNDER STEER- You do see it

Lexusboy Think of the things this can offer your car.

A computer a Wifi bluetooth a way of loading loads of car things like Centrafuse all your music and films etc: etc:

iPad isn't a computer, you can't use it for much if anything in the way of bluetooth (locked down to iTunes like the iPhone is) and you can't run centrafuse on it. Unless you're willing to drop £700 on it then you can only access the internet through wifi or tethering to another internet-capable device. How many shows do you go to that have wifi coverage? Wink

Doesn't sound very useful to me!

So when a rival comes out with a decent tablet pc that you can install what you like on, then it will be worthwhile

Hurricane So when a rival comes out with a decent tablet pc that you can install what you like on, then it will be worthwhile

There are tons of these on the way, just be patient as there's quite a few really promising devices on the way that are proper computers in this tablet package - and they'll include USB ports as well
