I have no experience or knowledge on this, but I thought once they're remarried and well supported the support from the ex gets stopped or at least decreased?

Mine are well over £1k a month, just for the mortgage, never mind bills/maintenance etc.

But worth also saying that my ex can't work due to looking after my eldest (she's handicapped and needs the care) so it's not by choice. Essentially I'm just paying to support my kids, and I'm perfectly happy to do so.

She can't have remarried, as we have yet to get round to divorcing (4.5 years down the line :lolSmile

So no, I was definitely not screwed by the justice system, everything I pay is voluntary and arranged between us personally.

For the record, if/when your ex remarries then you can apply to the courts (if your arrangements were made by them) for a reduction in your payments due to the change in circumstances, but it's not guaranteed.

End of next year my finances should (hopefully) be sorted out to the point where I can have a deposit put away - THEN I'll be paying two mortgages.... Smile

see your situation Dave is jsutifiable,

you have to pay to support your kids, and any decent Father would do so no questions asked

but my dad is being screwed, and i guess alot of guys do when they loose everything and have to start again,

although ive heard its the other way round if the mother earns more than you??

Not a lawyer obviously, so I'm not totally sure but I think that the partner looking after the kids is the one legally eligible for maintenance?

If your dad can prove his ex's financial situation has changed he might be able to insist on a review ?
