Had a chat with a customer this morning, he works for a glass fibre moulding company. All they make is ponds, those large things garden centres have hanging around forever....

Anyway they have gone from 10 people to 4 people (including 2 managers) this last 12 months, because the pond industry has died - blame the recession. Thing is they have all the equipment and knowledge, even the time now to do GRP moulds of almost anything you could want, including car parts etc..........

The owner who is semi retired simply turns away anything that isn't "pond" related all because one company several years age messed him about with after-market bonnets and boot lids.

This seams ludicrous to me, he has all the skills, facilities, materials etc to make GRP parts for cars and simply turn his back on the whole industry:Chair:

Anyone fancy buying a business with untapped potential?

May seem ludicrous to most ppl but a lot of companies who specialise in a particular field will not budge from what they do best.
I work for a company that does disabled/eldery products for bathrooms. We even do the wet room conversions.
Until a year a go we was getting our fibreglass shower beds from a company that makes boats.
He only took our work on cos he was quiet but like he says it kept him afloat (pardon the pun)
more firms would be in business still if they were flexible.

Yep a successful business is always about being able to adapt, and being able to do it first. Bit stupid to be so stubborn, and unless he does actually just want to shut the business down I can't understand why he wouldn't want to look at other opportunities.

He's missed an opportunity there

its not very often a business that specialises in one industry sector gets approached by another for work,

who would of thought about going to a pond manufacturer?!? for car parts?!?

quite clever whoever did lol
