Due to an increase in staff numbers at work I find that I have a fair few extra free weekends now than I've had for several years (Which means more playtime for me, But a little less cash to mess about with..... Not a big problem though).

OK, So what to do with my new free time?

Well, I haven't given up entirely on the idea of having a road legal "Disposable" toy car to hoon about on track with, And I've had a silly idea going around in my head for a few months now. This is all in the "Ponderance" stage at the minute and probably won't go anywhere....... But if it did lead somewhere, It would fall into the "Just for the silliness of it" category of projects.

I've been playing with an idea to get a boggo 1.0 or 1.3 K11 Micra and seeing if I can bodge a little low pressure turbo on it (From something like an Uno or Starlet)!

I'm just interested in the feasibility with regards to the engine and gearbox at the minute, I don't want to get bogged down with talking about brake upgrades and other "It would also need......" discussions. Also, Please don't reply with "Why the hell would you want to do this, Just go out and buy a......." or "Just drop a SR20DE into it". If I did build this it would just be because I fancy a silly/cheap toy to pull to bit's and rebuild (But I'm too old for Airfix kits! :SulkSmile and the idea of a 1.0 or 1.3 Micra with a turbo tickles my sense of humour.

I know I'd need to fab an exhaust manifold, Sort out some inlet plumbing, Build and fit something like a Megasquirt ECU, Fit a higher capacity fuel pump and probably larger injectors, + a few other bit's and bobs, But the whole ethos with this would be going back to my "Yoof" and doing it all on the cheap using secondhand bit's from Ebay and the local scrappy wherever possible (I wouldn't see a Megasquirt kit as expensive because when I blow the car up and scrap it I could yank it back out and sell it, or keep it for the next toy car. :tongue_smilieSmile.

So, What I want to know first is "Why not?", What big problem have I overlooked?

I'd be aiming for somewhere around the 100 to 130Bhp mark. Would a standard engine "Self dissemble" before I got close to that? Could I get away without dropping the CR? Would bit's of gearbox and CV joint fall out onto the road the first time I dropped the clutch in anger?...... Or if the K11's too fragile to even contemplate doing this too, What other cheap little "Kei car's" should I be looking at?

As I said, At the minute I'm just wondering if it COULD be done before I spend lots of time working out details.

Thanks in advance for any (Useful :whistlingSmile comments you may have about this idea.

it will be cheaper to put an SR20 VE in and you will have a lot more fun. It's been done before! John and I looked into this, I think you can use most of the kit out of the primera 2.0 for mounting etc. Engine is import only though (I think).

It'd be much more financially viable for you to drive down to mine, swap your front and read bumpers, and wheels, with my standard ones, and drive back - and much more satisfying too!

Hang on? that phrase sounds farmiliar.......... You don't work in that massage parlour in the centre of Bristol do you? Smile

Sparkystav Why not mate. If its disposable then try it! Nothing to lose lol
I'm tempted. I'm just concerned about mechanical longevity.
If I built it and it was a real fun toy, I might end up spending a fortune if things like gearbox's or engines only hold together for 200 miles at a time.

I wouldn't be after big power figures, But something like 130Bhp and 100lbf of torque in a 700Kg car (Once it's stripped out) sound's like a giggle.

Also, Think how much fun it would be to keep it looking boggo standard from the outside, Roll up at Castle Combe and scare some of the Saxo and Corsa drivers. Smile
