Evening all. Hope everyone is doing OK.

As you probably all know, I spend my day teaching people how to drive in a Nissan Micra automatic 1.2. Nothing flashy, it just has aircon, leccy door windows and mirrors. The perfect tool in which to teach people to drive in but there is somthing about this very reliable little run-about that really winds me up about every 25,000 miles and that is when I need a new pair of tyres. For a pair of Dunlop 175/65/15 tyres including VAT, wheel alignment and fitting, I had a bill for, as near as **** it, £200. That's right, £200. If I had continentals fitted that would have been nearer £220. No one seems to have budget brands in stock and they were only £10 cheaper than the dunlops.

I remember when I used to have a GS300 and had two Michelin Pilot Sports, including VAT, ballance etc for £180.

Does anyone know why the price of tyres, for my poxy little Nissan Micra cost slightly more than what two premium brand tyres do for a GS300?

Sorry for the rant, but this has really given me the hump.

Be good,

Jim.

I could have, the tyre fitter did mention Toyo, Kumho, and another make which I had never heard of before but had nothing in stock. Everyone only seems to stock the premium brands.

I tried Costco but Michelin don't do 175/65/15's.

Thanks for that Jambo. If you do need any advice, then don't hesitate to ask.

Confusedhock:

Did they see you drive up your Lex and decide to rip you off ?

Checking Camskill, the prices are around £32-£54 for a single tyre of that size. I presume you meant wheel balancing and not alignment ? Balancing and fitting shouldn't cost that much (and new valve too).

IS200 Turbo project now just about complete ! See my thread here and leave your comments.
Now running standalone Syvecs ECU and no stock ECU !

As soon as you say Nissan Micra, everybody says that they don't have budget tyres in stock. I think I might get a spare pair when I move so I don't get stung again in the future.

The only person I let loose on the Lex though is Tony at WIM. I think he's a bit too good for the Micra though.

Did you sort this btw? Those tyres I linked to above look like they were in stock - should only be £10 per wheel max to have them balanced and fitted.

Hi Parthiban.

I didn't have time to get the tyred from the link you sent as the Micra was in for a test the next day so I had to get two Dunlops instead. I kind of wish I hadn't because the Micra handled really well with the Continentals on and now it feels like a boat with the Dunlops. Apparently they are a harder compound so I should get a higher mileage out of them.

Thanks again.

Jim.
