Bypass lead clock/temp dimming when brake pedal pressed
Bypass lead clock/temp dimming when brake pedal pressed
Hey guys,
Been a member on here for ages but have been just browsing the forum. Have never posted. I have had my Lexus IS200 for 2 and half years now, done loads of mods to it.
But one of my first mods was to fit a double DIN Clarion head unit. A lot of people had issues with the wiring of some of the bypass leads, although mine worked OK apart from one small issue.
The temp display and clock, usually people say that the display stays on when the key is removed and it drains the battery. But mine, when I press the brake pedal without the headlights on, the back light goes out, when you release the brake it comes back. I have lived with it for 2 and half years, but recently went to connect up the auto dimming feature on my head unit to the illumination wires behind the dash and no matter what illumination wire I use. Whether its for stereo, heater dials/clock, heated seats, TRC etc the stereo display dims when ever the brake pedal is pressed.
I've been looking everywhere for an answer but have never found it. Can any of you guys point me in the right direction. My gut feeling is that I'm going to have to buy a new lead to solve this problem but hope that's not the case.
I think this is the lead I bought ages ago, definitely that seller, I bought facia and lead together as a kit:

That is an odd one!
If you unplug the stereo does it still so it? And has it def started since the stereo was installed?
Instead of messing around it may be better to try getting a new lead to start with. Weird issue though!
If you unplug the bypass lead does it still?
The leads are generally awful from the ones I've seen. A lot need rewiring to work properly
If I'm honest I haven't unplugged the lead since the day I installed it around two years ago. I've seen another on ebay that claims it has been carefully designed to match the lexus wiring.

Now whether this is true or not and whether its different to other leads I don't know. But I do recognise that exact photo from the bypass lead installation on this forum. Not to sure if its a member on here that may be making these leads?
Then again I have installed a complete new stereo system in my car with new speakers in the front doors and replaced the 6x9's, all new Vann Damme speaker cabling has been run throughout the car to all speakers and Genesis 5 channel in the boot to run all speakers. So really I'm not even touching any of the speaker cabling that would be included in the bypass lead. But I will say that the clock back light going out is annoying.
The proper lead that works IIRC is the "connects2" branded one. I have one and its fine. They're covered in a braiding as well.

The one you've linked to is the original one.
I would check the bypass lead, at least you only need 3 wires off it if your bypassing the speakers
As above only 3 wires to which if you have gone to that length of setup I would make your own feed for the radio
You need
12v
12v ignition
Ground
You can use the cig lighter to trigger a relay to make the ignition feed take all wiring away from the factory system
