Big question to Ormi????????
Big question to Ormi????????
Need a question to Ormi as he is a great MOT Tester/Instructor (:
My brother went in for an MOT test today and it failed on a few things. But the thing we are baffled about is his Offside Outer handle is snapped off, but the end is left on, but we can still enter the car with the end that is left on. But it failed for "Not being able to enter the Drivers door with the handle" or something along those lines. So I need to ask Ormi, is door handle being snapped off a problem to fail? Or is it the MOT garage being stupid and trying to fail it?
Cheers Ormi, but if any of the other guys have knowledge on this. Please tell me.
Quote:a. A driver's or any passengers door does not latch securely in the closed positionSounds like with a bit left on that you could use to open it, it should be alright though ? Unless the "relevant control" is the handle which isn't there ? :confused1:
b. a driver's or front passenger's door cannot be opened from both inside and outside the vehicle from the relevant control in each case.
The MoT Testers' manual is here.
Section 6.2 does seem to have something on door handles, a reason for failure is :
I guess the question the MOT guy would have to ask himself "if this car was in a accident could someone get out the driver out of the car"
This is what is said about doors and why they can fail a MOT
a. A driver's or any passengers door does not latch securely in the closed position
b. a driver's or front passenger's door cannot be opened from both inside and outside the vehicle from the relevant control in each case.
Note: Reason for rejection 1 b does not apply to:
. goods vehicles modified for the carriage of high value cargoes such as armoured security vehicles
. front passenger doors if the door aperture has been permanently 'filled' as part of a specialised customisation provided that there are no obvious aperture gaps.
But come on Ormi spread the word....:thumbup1:
Lexusboy I guess the question the MOT guy would have to ask himself "if this car was in a accident could someone get out the driver out of the car"
