Well, i got the blue screen issues solved. However, i went to use my PC today on internet explorer and everything just froze. Went to boot back up and took ages, so turned it off and waited a while.

Came to turn it bck on and i took forever to load up windows 7, i mean at least 15 minutes from pushing the button, till my desktop icons had appeared, aswell as my widgets. It then froze again when i tried to click the start menu, and all icons along the bottom (EG Music library) caused it to lock up, and the blue twirly loading cursor to appear.

It now locks up about 10 seconds after its unloked, with programs (eg IE and MSN) changing to "not responding" , yet the stange thing is, my widget never shows the PC hitting 100% CPU or RAM usage. When its frozen its usually only at about 3% usage on CPU and around 48% ram Confusedhock:

Im doing a full virus scan with "microsoft Security Essentials" which im guessing is going to take some time?

Any ideas what it could be, maybe the processor is on its way out since it doesnt appear to be trying as hard? (It showed it hit 100%, then backed off right away, sometimes hits 40% when PC is froze, then again drops back off below 10% when its still frozen) if that makes any sense

help is much appreciated :thumbup1:

Cheers Gord, helps me 100% that. At least its blaming windows and not my PC.

Running scan which will take ages due to constant freezes, aswell as instll latest updates, then go from there. Maybe it will be out of the window by the end of the week!

Virus scan will probably show nothing at all, but best left to complete anyway.

What's the spec of your PC mate? Continual blue screens often indicate memory problems more than CPU (at least that's always been my experience)

One way to check is to grab a live Linux disc off the net (ubuntu, mandriva, suse for example) and boot from that - if the problems are in your hardware they'll still be present under a different os, if not then (as I so often tell people) Windows is the problem...

Using a live disc won't install anything either, just runs the operating system off the cd/dvd drive, so no worries on your data.

Give it a try, and pm me if you like for help...

Nowt hard about Linux since about 2001 matey...

Besides its a quick way of checking if your hardware's kaput...

Win 7 is a total resource hog by the way, you really need about 4 gig RAM for a smooth experience. Rest of the machine sounds about adequate though, so my guess remains the memory... either it's not playing the game or you need more...

Mmmm. My question is (and im not saying your wrong) is that the RAM never raises above lets say 60%, so if it was hitting 100% i would know there isnt enough.

However, shouldnt the processsor be working harder when its frozen, instead of doing nothing :/

sounds like a memory problem...

Im guessing you arent using matched memory for a start.. it could be one of the sticks is faulty...

try with just one stick in.. then swap if it doesnt work..

W7 has a built in Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool to test RAM.

Also, check Windows Systems Logs.

However, shouldnt the processsor be working harder when its frozen, instead of doing nothing :/

Re the processor, it would only jump to 100% if it was the cause of the bottleneck and the reason for the slowdown... Another argument in favour of the memory being duff.

Redz has a point, if you have 1.5Gb of RAM, presumably you have 1x1Gb and 1x512Mb sticks installed - are they from the same manufacturer? Try taking a look at this link and see what comes of it?

Erm. i have 3 x 512mb :blushing: 2 different manufacturers. Although i cant "take one out" because w7 needs 1.5

Will check the windows RAM test tomorrow, virus scan is nearly done, and notifies my there is malicious or unwanted things on my pc. And surprisingly it hasnt froze for 15minutes, touch wood
