Right guys, one of my colleagues wants a new car, to replace her VW Cockroach.

Thought I'd garner opinions on decent cars from you lot since you likely know more than me...

couple of stipulations - she does loads of miles, so has to be a diesel... no renaults or saabs.... and has to be quick and fun to drive (at least as fun to drive as a diesel can be!)

Consider the floor open to comments.... <ducks>

What sort of budget? As far as diesels are concerned the BMWs are the obvious choice - 1 or 3 series maybe?

The Civic Diesels are suffering from a multitude of faults, clutches every 30K is not unusual:blink: and they drink oil, boot seals leak. Thats one reason I didn't go for the Civic.

Accords have the same engine and the same issues. Check the Civic owners club threads for info.

If future value is important then its a BMW or VW - but don't discount the Toyota Avensis and Mitsi, offerings VERY good cars indeed.

If your doing lots of miles then i would go for a merc diesel 2.7 your return 50 to the gallon and have more comfort than the smaller diesels.

Another choice would be the Audi Diesel some people like the BMW but these do nothing for me but each to their own..

Hope she finds what she is looking for:thumbup1:
