Tints and windscreen 'banner'
Tints and windscreen 'banner'
Thinking about getting some darker tints all round, or at least matching the front windows to the stock rear tints.
I also quite like the look of the vinyl windscreen visor 'banners' that some people have. What do you think...nice or rice?
I'd either go totally plain, or maybe have a discreet GReddy logo over the drivers side considering that I seem to be a moth around a lightbulb with their stuff :p
tinting front windows illegal if you get caught depending on how dark the will take your car and charge you money for the tow....to match the rear the fronts will be illegal and if caught the least you will have to do is peel it off roadside....
also the sunstrip is a mot fail if the wipers come in to contact with it.....
the tinted sun strips are ok as long as they dont come too far down the window
but i will admit it looks good with the tints all round..
I'd say definitely go for the side tints, my fronts are tinted to match (ish) to rears (was done before I bought the car) and it looks so much better, especially on a black car.
I personally think the banner in that top picture looks really good, makes it look aggressive. Your body work set up is pretty much the same isn't it?

I hate the sunstrips but it's your car so if you like it go for it!
The tints all round is much better than just the rears so I'd go for that, but probably makes sense to keep things legal.
What's going on with tints nowadays? A few years ago I thought they made any kind of tint on the front windows illegal, but now it seems to have been relaxed? Pentagon seems to think their light smoke (or whatever it's called) is a legal tint and my Lexus dealer often has approved used cars with tints all round at this level done by Pentagon.......
the standard front windows have a very slight tint anyway and just pass the tint man....
also no tint on the front windows is allowed..
As of January 1st 2004, new legislation was brought in that prohibits window tinting.
The Law:
You are not allowed to tint your windscreen or front windows AT ALL. Anything forward of the B pillar (middle of the car) MUST NOT be tinted in anyway. You are however still allowed to perform any level of tinting on your back windows.
If you've tinted you windows before January that does not mean that you are safe, if the police believe that your tint causes reduced visibility they can issue you with an order to have it removed.
Why was this law brought in?
The reason this law was introduced was that there was a serious accident between a motorbike and a heavily modified car with very dark tints. It was believed that the root cause of the accident was that the driver couldn't see well enough through his tinted windows.
It's interesting as to why, thanks Ormi..
My first real experience of heavy tinting is my honda, which is all dark tints on all rear windows. I would have to say it doesn't actually stop me seeing anything (as far as I know) but it has a very scary effect on distance perception (at night) in the rear view mirror and I will admit if I wasn't such a wing mirror addict I may well have changed lanes and caused an accident believing traffic behind me was much further back than it really was. I did wonder if it was just strange glass in the rear view mirror itself but it isn't, if you actually turn round and look out the back they do seem further away (this is only at night so I presume it's because it blocks out headlight glare so they look like they are farther away)
Ok cool so it is still illegal, then perhaps best not to tint at all but if you do keep it pretty light.
Yep spot on PW, it's the headlights looking dimmer that gives you the illusion the car is further away. My only experience with tinted windows is driving rental cars in the US and that experience has taught me that I'd never tint the rear window - I drive too aggressively sometimes to deal with reduced visibility :blushing:
