Anyone @ Lexus/Toyota able to dig up some history?
Anyone @ Lexus/Toyota able to dig up some history?
I'm not sure how this works, (or if its possible) but if I were to give someone at Lex/Toy the reg no of a car I'm interested in, would they be able to check out its service history?
I'm looking at a car with rather high mileage and the dealer has no idea if cambelt has been done! No stickers in engine bay and no mention on service stamps.
TBH it sounds like a it of a duffer, but at the price they are selling I've got a couple of grand buffer to get some maintenance done.
Does the owner not have any service history for it? Always a little worrying. Someone at Toyota should be able to look up service history carried out for you, though obviously only if it was serviced by a main dealer. Those V8s are pretty bullet proof mind.

It better be super cheap based on that, otherwise I wouldn't really gamble on it.
If the cambelt was done at Lexus, then Lexus UK should be able to track it down if not the dealers - so I'm guessing it's not been done or was at an independent.
Assuming we're talking about an LS here, I would be very careful, as when stuff goes wrong it is VERY expensive to fix so I think it would be sensible to pay a bit more for a well documented low mileage car than gamble on something like that.
If it's an LS you really should have a chat with Jsj24uk, he did a lot of research before he bought his and has gained a lot more since owning his ..especially if you have any plans to replace items in it as the programming in his is a minefield and even Lexus are wary of doing some stuff

jimxms Its cheap...but not as cheap as I'd like. I can get one with 50k less miles, no CEL's and a full dealership history for £1500 more (but with cream interior which I dont like).
Is it a no-brainer?

I would go for it. But then I do like a deal and will often take a gamble. Have done the same on many cars before, and it often pays off, but not always. So far no issues with my £1k IS.
