Studded winter tyres would feel like overkill over there I suppose, but they are awesome for driving on frozen lakes around here :tongue_smilie:

08-09-2018, 11:57 AM #2I just read a winter tyre test where the Nankangs were deemed worst, but it kind of depends on road conditions. If I moved to the UK I would use Michelin X-ice XI2, Goodyear Ultra Grip ICE+, Nokian Hakkapelitta R or Continental Contiviking Contact 5. Those are the best winter tyres that aren't studded, according to this year's tests in Swedish car magazines.

I am looking at winter tyres myself, so please report back what you do buy, and your opinions of them.

ad: It was a tough call to make, but the Supercharged IS200 is being retired. ad:lebon They are not cheap either.

lebon They are not cheap either.Nope, but they are a lot cheaper than having to repair your car after ending up in the ditch :tongue_smilie:

That true,but having lived in Kent for almost 10 years the worst winter I experienced was last year for about 5 days of snow maybe give and take,so hence why looking for something not too cheap but ggod enough for a week of snow in a year.

That true,but having lived in Kent for almost 10 years the worst winter I experienced was last year for about 5 days of snow maybe give and take,so hence why looking for something not too cheap but ggod enough for a week of snow in a year.

Ofcourse it is but lucky for me I dont live in Sweden lol,I have never used a winter tyre before the only reason I am lookibg for one now is because its a RWD car, also the winter here in Kent is not as severe as in Sweden or most parts in the U.K.

ad: It was a tough call to make, but the Supercharged IS200 is being retired. ad:I was wandering if it is worth it too. As you say, maybe a week of snow last year was the worst in many years. Winter tyres are good in the wet, but in the dry do not perform as well as summer tyres. I'd guess half the days (here in the Southern UK) in winter are dry, and on those days you are downgrading your cars handling and braking abilities! Snow socks is another thing I am considering.

But remember they are not just for snow but for any low temps, normal summer tyres wont be anywhere near as good in sub 6-7 degrees c
