HB4 SMD LED Bulbs
HB4 SMD LED Bulbs
Hey guys i purchased these to sling in the fogs but the buggers wont come on :LOCMOD:

I tried both bulbs on the fog lamp plug, then being the same as the dipped beam bulb i tired them on those and still nothing?
Is it because they are too low current draw to power up from the cars feed or is there another underlying issue?
Think ill just go for normal xenon type ones instead...
LEDs, unlike light bulbs, are phase sensitive. I'm not sure if that's the correct expression, my English is far from perfect, but LEDs have a + and a - side and they have to be connected the correct way to light up.
Diodes are designed to impede current in a particular direction, they will only operate if installed with the correct polarity. Having said that, if they only fit in to the sockets one way, it looks as if you're in trouble. Have you tried soldering a resistor?
P.Lindblom LEDs, unlike light bulbs, are phase sensitive. I'm not sure if that's the correct expression, my English is far from perfect, but LEDs have a + and a - side and they have to be connected the correct way to light up.

Barry Ok got you and that crossed my mind but the plug will only marry up one way and are a sealed unit, i cannot change the pins around on the bulb and dont fancy modifying my cars wiring just to check.I've got a 9006/hb4 HID kit which didn't work when I connected it the first time. It turned out the pins in their plugs had the wrong polarity. If i remember correctly there was no problem turning the plug 180 degrees. The only thing is that the locking pin on the plug won't do its job.
Surely they would mention in the ad that the bulbs only work one way and that some manufacturers wiring will be different i.e the pos and neg could be different on another model car which takes HB4 bulbs.
Its just something i cannot rectify i dont think unlike a T5 bulb for example which you just take out and spin 180 as you said.

Barry Aside from the clip not doing its job there is a "tooth" running cetrally between the 2 pins inside the bulb plug to only allow connection one way. That's correct. I forgot about that one. The first thing I would do is to test the smd lights to see if they work or not, but I suspect they do. If you've got two wires and any 12V source you can just press the wires against the pins in the light plugs and see if they light up. If they don't, swap the wires around.
I guess removing this tooth somehow would sort that.
