Hi everyone. Apologies that my first post on this forum is asking for help but I've read the thread on re-programming the key fob and I'm still a little bit stuck.

I've got an X reg IS200. Unfortunately both the master key and the valet key snapped in two within a week of each other so I went and got two new keys cut with new shells. The master key worked fine for about a week then it began to work intermittently, sometimes leaving me stuck outside of the car frantically pressing the key fob in an effort to get the door open. I tried the valet key at this point and found it wouldn't work at all. I took both of the them to a locksmith who tested the batteries and said they both had power.

I followed all of the reprogramming instructions in the sticky thread on this forum and they worked up to the point where I had to press the lock and unlock buttons on the fob. Nothing happened when I pressed the buttons.

Would this problem have been caused by me getting the new keys cut or is it something else, like a sensor in the car not working? Any advice would be appreciated as I'm getting a bit fed up locking the door with the key and I have the horrible feeling that one of these days I will forget to manually lock the other doors (again) :blushing: and come out to find my car gone.

Have you tried replacing the battery in the coded unit? That might sound like a daft suggestion, but it solved my problem of not being able to unlock the car.

Even if the battery's got power already? Locksmith said it had power when he tested it and I can see the little light flashing on the fob unit when I press it - it just doesn't lock or unlock the car (not consistently anyway).

Annoyingly it did manage to set the alarm from inside the house when I undid the cover, took the battery out and then put it back in. I opened the door with the key and set the alarm off and it took 15 minutes of cursing, swearing and jabbing the fob to reset it. My neighbours didn't thank me for that at 8am.

put a new battery in and see if it solves the problem, if it doesn't we can start looking elsewhere.

New battery has solved the problem. I took it to a different shop, guy popped a new battery in it, tested the old one again and said that whilst it was registering a little bit of power, it wasn't enough to pop the locks on the car. Thanks for the suggestion

Yea 1 problem solved fairly easily!!

There is a world of power difference between lighting up a tiny LED and sending a radio signal.

Yeah I see that now - lol. It was the idiot in Timpsons (can I say that??) who took out the battery, tested it and told me it was fine. Luckily there's great little independent store in town that knows how to test a battery properly - I will just go to them in future (and should've gone to in the first place).

As for staying a wee while, where's the introductions section??? Smile
