steviewevie I'm curious myself now, I may well take out the fuse for my horns and set my alarm off, just to see what it's like

Here's a video (with audio) of me setting off the alarm on my car. As well as the horns, you should be able to hear the siren (in the boot). My camera is on its way out, I think, hence the weird bit near the start of the video.
I tried removing the horn fuse, but then when I set off the alarm nothing happened, no siren either.
Hmm…that’s interesting.
Your siren is a lot louder then mine, and sound like your alarm if fully working.
Strange thing is I remember your car being older than mine, so it’s a lil annoying that my battery in the siren has already gone.
It really should a rechargeable battery in there instead.
You say you tried the alarm with the horn fuse out, so I wonder if because that my horns aren’t working, it has something to do with the sirne in the boot not working properly.
I didn’t get a chance to look at that diagram you sent me, so I will have a look this weekend.
My car is a 1999 model.
According to the manual, the battery in the siren is fine if it sounds for 30 seconds, stop for 5 seconds, then starts again.
It probably is a rechargeable battery in there, but as such I guess it will not have an infinite life.
As Chris said, you can get a replacement battery but it's a stupid price, so why not try and find one from a breaker's ? Maybe a complete siren assembly ?
It's inside the boot, behind the trim on the driver's side.
You might even be able to get a new battery from places like Maplin, they sell lots of different types and as long as its the same ampage and voltage plus rechargable you should be ok?

Davros I'll pull the siren out and have a look inside it to see what it uses, and even if i can find a replacement in Maplin, then i've lost nothing as i then can go to a breakers and replace it.
