I replace my precat manifold with a DKNE exhaust manifold without precats and never had a problem of check engine light or any code errors. When I fitted my HJS 200 cell sport cat the check engine light turned on and i solved the problem by fitting a mechanical spacer to fit the sensor a bit further from the exhaust gases. It is being working fine with no code errors for more than a year. I am not sure if this solution will do if you totally remove the middle cat.
