I'm tempted by DAB, the only radio station I ever listen to is really poor reception until I'm 5 minutes away from work, but clear as day when I BT it through my fone. For now I'm just gonna stick some toons on to the tab. Gonna pop Maplins later and have a gander at what they have.
The tablet has turned up, already got Torque working on it. Still wanna get my head around what I can do with it before I go and thrash it by sticking that USBROM thingy on it.
It's bigger then I hoped, so it's gonna be a pain in the ass getting it settled nicely into the dash and my electrical skillz are not good enough to find a way to condense it down. oh well, now the fun and the hacking of the dash starts.
So from this:
To this:
Needs some filling and sanding in order to look right, but I'm on the right track. Need to work out a way to secure it. Probably gonna have a look at some push clips. I want it secure in the car, but I don't wanna have to rip half the dash out to get to it. Ain't tried any sound or power yet, need to grab a few things and Maplins was awful.
See them marks all over the dash? Whats the best way to get rid of em. I was thinking sand em down and using some filler primer then spraying it black. Anyone got easier ideas?
Try using nova launcher with widgets fir the dash, will make pressing things easier while driving
So tried to install USBROM, ended up getting stuck in boot loop. No idea what I did wrong. Followed guides, so I think I'm just gonna reset it to factory and not bother with such things until I have a better understanding.
Got it working with Timurs USBROM now...
Looking good mate, what size is the screen

Tasker makes my brain hurt! Only thing I've managed to successfully do so far is make the tablet play music as soon as the 3.5mm is inserted. Anybody with the skillz to walk an idiot through how to use it?
Fascia is starting to come along though. Fine fill the fascia, felt it up inside, paint it, job done. Quite impressed by my first attempt. Defo need to grab a right angled 3.5mm jack adapter though, it's not liking the straight ones. I can also see that fiddling with tucking the wires back into place is gonna get boring very quickly. Need to have a think about that. I suppose I could have had it slide in sideways rather then from the top and somehow meshed the jack and miniusb to the holder. But I'd have needed to get it spot on and I'm not that confident of my skills.
Need a slight rethink on the cradle. Needs to be pushed out at the bottom a tad more.
Even managed to squeeze my volume control in, which I was quite pleased about.
Gonna grab a new amp at some point as the one I have is falling to bits. Only two of my four channels work and the female RCA connector is wobbly. Drivers side door speaker farts, so when I grab a new amp I'm gutting the sound system and redoing it, plus some of the screw turns have snapped off, so I'll 1) never get them undone or 2) never be able to tighten them back up. It's never been right since the day I bought it. No wonder he turned the radio off when we went for a test drive!
I'd recommend a USB DAC if you are at all interested in sound quality. That will render your volume control knob useless though.
