Today Mr postie delivered me some goodies in the form of a fanless 'embedded PC' and a 7" optically bonded touchscreen monitor.

I've already ripped the 7" screen apart and fitted it to my motorised housing, but now comes the hard bit...

The PC is fairly large (250x195x50) and test fitting in the glove box looks to be less than ideal (although not impossible). So I've been trying to think of other places to put it.

Would under the passenger seat work? I'm not sure how much space is under there or if I could even pick power up from that area?

Ideas/suggestions?

Cheers

you cant pick power up from under there and you will have trouble due to a air vent under the seat and air bag connectors etc

what about installing it in the boot ?

maybe where the old Satnav brain would be under the carpet ?

This is me you're talking about. Anything more complex than hooking up a couple of wires and I'm out of my depth

I would also think that installing in the boot would mean running a very long vga cable that would make the screen look ****? I think everything needs to be near the front-ish of the car ideally as my plan is to hook it all up to a Zeitronix ZT2 for digital gauges and on-screen data logging.

Also, on another note the PC unit is 12v, but it runs from a mains adapter. I'm guessing that I can't just hook up the PC to the car +12v as its not going to be regulated enough for what the PC will require and cranking the car will probably kill the motherboard eventually?

If thats the case I'm also going to need a DC-DC PSU arent i?

Pm me the specs of the pc and I'll look into connecting it up

I put my pc in the boot and ran a 5m VGA cable to the front with no signal loss
