And mac software is written for macs only, they don't have to be flexible enough to cater for an unlimited amount of configurations, like PC's have to.

If i ever get a mac you have permission to shoot me for paying way over the odds to pay for hardware that i can get much cheaper in a different computer. My computer is much more flexible, more easily upgradable, has more software available, software i want i know there will be a driver for it...... Windows > Mac Smile

Smile Can I just chuck in Linux at this point?

You can get live cds to try out on your machine which don't install anything - Ubuntu for example currently boots on my old PC (Intel Pentium 4 running at 2GHz, 256Mb RAM - so it's an old, fairly low spec machine) in under 40 seconds.

Download from the Ubuntu website (for free), burn to disc and give it a shot... (BTW, Linux has had open app preview from the taskbar and window snapping for a few years now Smile ) Looks like Bill & co are catching up! Big Grin

also i have an ubuntu disc somewhere, which i used to run on my windows laptop. very secure and fast OS.
Also you can test out the product before installing it, and have both your OS on the same hard drive using a partition.

Linux is fairly simple these days, I'd say it's about as easy to use as Windows. However if you do know your way round "under the hood" in one Linux version, you're pretty safe in them all... For first time users, I'd recommend Mandriva or Kubuntu as they are very user friendly...

Dean Most windows software is rubbish, thats why i don't use Internet explorer, media player, Word or excel and have found other programs.
Yeah - replace IE with Firefox, Media Player with VLC, MS Office with Open Office - all free, all better than the MS equivalents for the majority of stuff...
