My Indecisive 4.0 V8 1UZ-FE Project
Cheers!
I'm not going to put forced induction on it to start with, but I do have a set of lower compression pistons and thicker rods just in case...
Off to Germany for a week later on today so no more updates for a bit, although I am going to the workshop this afternoon I won't have time to post anything afterwards.
In theory when I get back I will have a gearbox waiting for me, and a replacement for my daily driver. Fingers crossed!
I bought a remote-shift R154 from a 55,000 mile Chaser. Hasn't been delivered yet but hopefully it will be just the ticket!
Here are some uninteresting photos:
Note the funky shifter arrangement which puts the shift lever further back (overhanging the propshaft) which is unique to the R154 from the Chaser and Soarer. This is one of the reasons I didn't want a MK3 Supra one where the shifter goes straight into the top of the box. I could have used one of those and cut and welded the shifter, or built a housing extension on the end of it, but this is a much better solution and is the right way of doing it, even if it did cost more. On top of that it has bigger synchros and is just generally newer and you can still get bits for it, unlike the older box.
Yeah that's the same one you need to fit the r154 in the IS unless you get the adaptor I think Thor make.
Sparkystav Yeah that's the same one you need to fit the r154 in the IS unless you get the adaptor I think Thor make.

toxo And if you're fitting an R154 in a MKIV Supra, the shifter position is all the same. As a result they're a pain in the **** to find (they are rare anyway, there weren't a lot of manual Chasers or Soarers). This one cost a lot but it comes with a lot of stuff I don't need that hopefully I can sell on.
Wasn't aware Thor made a shifter position adaptor for the MK3 box!

What about the wildwood kits like this:
Smaller cylinder and just do away with the booster
